Hello and welcome to the official match thread for the Carling Cup 1st round game between Exeter City and Liverpool. The game will be played on Wednesday 24th of August and it is a 7.45PM kick-off. The game will take place at St. James Park. Liverpool have started the season well with a 1-1 draw in the first game of the season against Sunderland and followed that up with a 2-0 win against Arsenal. Exeter have had a mixed start to their League 1 campaign. They started the campaign with a 0-0 draw against newly-promoted Stevenage. They beat Yeovil 2-0 in the first round of the Carling Cup and have then lost their next 3 leagues games against MK Dons, Brentford and Preston North End. My Prediction: Liverpool 4-2 Exeter. Exeter 1 - 3 Liverpool Goalscorers: Liverpool- Suarez: 21st minute. Liverpool- Maxi: 54th minute. Liverpool- Carroll: 59th minute. Exeter- Nardiello: 80th minute. Exeter: Krysiak Jones Arch-Henville Nicholls Duffy Golbourne Dunne McNish Noble Nardiello Keohane SUBS: Pidgeley Bauza Logan Frear Bennett Coles Shephard Keohane on for Bauza. McNish on for Shephard. Nicholls on for Coles. Liverpool: Reina Flanagan Robinson Wilson Skrtel Shelvey Spearing Maxi Henderson Downing Carroll SUBS: Doni Enrique Meireles Kuyt Suarez Carragher Adam Carroll on for Meireles. Downing on for Suarez. Shelvey on for Adam. Enjoy the game. YNWA.
By the way, I think I will miss the game on Wednesday so if a moderator is available for this game and could update the main post with team news and goals, I would appreciate it.
Cheers! It's not that important but if you or another moderator could change the score in the original post so that guests viewing the thread don't have to go through pages of posts to find out the score.
Gosh... is it still 0-0? We haven't scored yet... as long as we score by Wednesday evening I'll be happy.
Hmmm... I'm going to go with 0-1. We'll be knocking on the door for 80 minutes with mainly reserves- pinning Exeter back but not getting anywhere... Kenny will bring on some first teamers... Downing to get the winning goal in the 80th minute... rebounding in off the cross bar. (maybe I should stop trying to be too precise in my predictions).
If that did happen though... I've also been a bit precise with my prediction for the United Vs Spurs game tonight... Welbeck goal in the 53rd minute! Here is my team for the game: (Or the team I would like to see) ------------Doni-------------- Flanagan-Wilson-Skrtel-Aurelio* Maxi-Spearing-Shelvey-J.Cole -----Pacheco--------------- -------------N'Gog---------- *Aurelio if fit, Robinson is Aurelio isn't fit. A mixture of experience and youth should see us get into the third round of the Carling Cup. Exeter are a good side with an excellent young manager in Paul Tisdale. Don't want to underestimate them.
I'm fairly sure we'll win... I'm fairly sure we'll dominate... I'm just not convinced we'll score a lot- it'll be a frustrating game because Exeter will have the "hey we're playing a Premier League team" vibe going- and I don't think our second-string has too many natural goal-scorers... so it'll be towards the end when the "new game" vibes run down and the better physical training (and possibly a few experienced legs coming off the bench) when we'll finally score. ... It seems to frequently play out that way anyway with us.
Maybe Liverpool should start Andy Carroll, if he could get goals to boost his confidence, its obvious he's lacking some it may do him the world of good come the weekend against Bolton. There is brilliant crosses coming in from Stewart Downing but he's not attacking the ball. We all know he is capable of attacking it as he showed against City last year. It would be wise to leave Suarez out completely, but starting Andy Carroll may be beneficial.
yeah i was thinking about that, but for some reason i dont think hell play, although i can see the possible benefits, and was thinking along the same lines for henderson...
Kenny's thoughts on the game... NOTE: If you read the last bit of the interview, it's nice to see that Soto was liked around the club and the club wished him all the best at Wolfsburg.
I'd be happy to see; ------------------Doni--------------------- -Flanaghan--Wilson---Skrtel-----Robinson -Maxi-------Spearing---Shelvey---Pacheco -----------------Cole------------------------- -----------------N'gog----------------------- I thoroughly believe that will be enough to secure us a route into Round 3.
i like this team as well although i'd like to see Raheem get some decent time on the pitch so him instead of Pacheco
