Hallelujah, a transfer link that doesn't come from the Turkish press! While there's a certain amount of reheating stories from the summer, there have been headlines suggesting we are considering a January loan for PSG's Lucas Moura - who, as I said when we were linked with him during the summer, is the exact sort of player who could make an impact as he's the sort of player our attacking band needs as he's got skill, pace, and can chip in goals. Add to that two additional things that work in our favour should we consider making the loan permanent: in spite of playing for PSG he's only on around £55k p/w, and with PSG looking to balance their FFP there's plenty of grounds for a potential Levying.
Reports out there at the moment suggesting Toby may have be sold, as we won’t budge on the wage structure. I really hope that’s a load of tosh, but you do have to question why he’s not signed a new deal yet. Plenty of others have done so. I thought we’d have seen more reports by now of potential targets for January. It’s been said by Poch in the past that January isn’t a good time to buy, but the thought of having to go another 2 months (as it’ll be deadline day if we do) without a fresh face or two is bloody worrying based on current form, and what the Christmas period will do in terms of fatigue
In another reheated rumour from the summer, O Bola are reporting we've sent scouts to Porto to run yet another rule over Ricardo Pereira - but, just like that Everton fan thumping a Lyon player while holding his child, they're multitasking by also looking at their Brazilian left back Alex Telles...although it's worth mentioning that Porto would have to give 10% of any fee to Galatasaray, so something tells me a Levying is going to be difficult.
It's a tricky one to call. January is generally a stupid window and traditionally only clubs with more money than brains or those in relegation scraps do any meamingful business. It's a cliche but Wanyama's return and Lamela reaching full fitness will be like two new signings. If the Toby rumours are untrue and he makes a return in the new year, that's 3. I'd sooner recall Onomah from Villa than gamble upwards of £20m on a player who will probably need 3 months to settle in anyway. If we are doing business, it needs to be with PL proven players only. Barkley, because he isn't likely to be expensive and supposedly wants to come. Sessegnon buy and loan back. If Toby is indeed out until April, I'd like us to go in for Alfie Mawson. Called it in the summer but he is exactly the type of CB Poch loves. Swansea are in major trouble and could be bullied into selling. Would be expensive but worth it as a long-term replacement for Toby (who I'm convinced wants to leave and it has nothing to do with wages).
For me... IN Lucas Moura (loan) - an injection of pace and increased competition in the attacking band Ryan Sessegnon (possible buy & loan back) - if we're looking to bring him in, a land grab is necessary given the other clubs sniffing around Joel Veltman/Mathijs de Ligt/Maxililian Wober - with Toby possibly out for a long time we need a centre back, and the ones we bought from Ajax do well... OUT GKN - Poch clearly doesn't rate him, and with Poch's book being far from flattering about him it's best he move on Edwards (loan) - certainly guilty of flash bastardry in PL2 games, so a loan could curb the worst of his excesses
I agree on mawson terrific prospect hard as nails no nonsense centre back who I saw play for wycombe a couple of seasons back and pops up with some goals from free kicks and corners.
Can he head them in from knee height, in front of the near post? If not, he's not for us. Currently we'd be better off with Happy....or Sneezy.......or........Bashful. Bloody pantomime season means doubling the transfer fee.......
I have said many times that there are some bargains in the lower leagues I know he is at Swansea now but I wanted us to take a chance on him when he was on loan from Brentford to Wycombe for a season a couple of years back.fazio or mawson I know who I think spurs should have signed
I said previously that this is the first January in a while where I think we need to do some business. 1 - A CM. Either recall Josh, who's been excellent at Villa, or go all out for Seri/ Goretzka. I initially mentioned Barkley not so long ago but have reconsidered due to the fact he'll still need a lot of time to be ready. 2 - An ageing 30+ CB. Someone who can come in and do a job right now and possibly for next season but won't stunt the growth of the likes of Foyth and CCV. 3 - Sessegnon. Get the kid in now, don't even loan him back. Rose, albeit having been injured for a large spell, just hasn't looked great since returning and having already burnt some bridges, I think it's best to cut ties with him now. A shame in some ways as I loved watching Danny tear it up on the left hand side but I don't think his head is in it at Spurs any more. 4 - An attacking player. Either a striker or attacking mid, just someone to add another option while the likes of Eriksen, Dele and Llorente continue to underperform (perhaps harsh on Nando but he's missed some absolute sitters and seems to have been possessed by the Soldado/ Janssen ghost). A loan move for Lucas Moura which has been reported lately would actually be ideal, it'll be an immediate kick up the arse to a few players and also doesn't put too much importance on rushing Lamela back to quickly, even though it'd be great to get him up to speed as quick as possible. Failing that, time to promote Edwards and/ or Georgiou and/ or Sterling.
Some rumours are suggesting Barkley has had a setback with his recovery and is still a few months away. Would be pointless paying a fee for him. Id rather we wait til the summer now and get him for free. Be very suprised if we buy anyone in Jan, Getting Onomah (if were allowed to) back would be a good call. I hope we do bring someone in but can you get top quality ? i doubt it.
The hope is that there are players wanting game time in the lead up to the WC that we could pick up? Preferably, not L'il Theo, The Wheelchair, Joe Hart, Andy Carroll or Mark Noble
Been seeing reports today which state that Toby might not be back until April, according to the player himself.
Yes. Trophies. He's good enough to play for the very best and only has one big contract left in him as he approaches 30. If he is out to April we should sell this summer. We'd easily get £40m+ for him, more than enough to sign a replacement.
Spam looked so much better without Joe Hart in goal. Don't think I've ever found something less surprising.
Turkwatch Since it's been almost a week since we were linked with someone who wakes up with a view of the Bosphorus, we're being linked with Trabzonspor midfielder (and, judging by this season's official squad photo, Bond villain henchman) Yusuf Yazici. Türk basını ne zaman öğrenecek?
