Pathetic finish to what had been a really good contest in the first innings, need to find a backbone for the 2nd Test...
I predicted 3-1 to the Aussies. It could well be a white wash now. History tells us that it's very hard to recover from this kind of defeat down under. Also, I hear Bairstow may be sent home after apparently head butting one of the Aussie players a month ago!! Marvellous!!!!
Next test is our best chance, a day nighter at Adelaide, should work for Anderson (if fit) and Broad. Perform there and we could avoid humiliation, but it’s all uphill now. Bairstow thing is a complete press stitch up. Apparently he has the odd habit of greeting people with a kind of Maori head bump. Bancroft didn’t know this and was understandably surprised when they met, but has said there was no aggression involved, no complaints have been made. Just seen a very funny clip from post match press conference with Bancroft talking about this. He claims to have the heaviest head in the Western Australian squad “and that’s an actual measurement”. Fuss about nothing.
Embarrassing. Well done to Australia. All to do in the next test otherwise we might as well throw towel in.
Don't think Jimmy Anderson was wise to accuse the Aussies of bullying our tail-enders. They'll be loving that. Just get on with it and give them some back, Jimmy.
We really need to take advantage of the conditions in Adelaide. The day/night thing makes it better for watching live. It starts at 3.30, so setting my alarm for 6am ready for the afternoon (post lunch, or is it tea) session. Fully expecting the Aussies to be 70-4 at the interval.
Not quite, 158-2 at Dinner. I think Test cricket should return it’s Edwardian pomp and play full day - night games with the following breaks: Breakfast - including kedgeree Elevenses Lunch High tea Dinner Supper A full day of test cricket or 5 20/20 games. How on Earth the late Victorian and Edwardian upper and upper middle classes got anything done with that feasting schedule is beyond me
They were talking about this in the break and it's just what Geoff Boycott was advocating (well without all the meals). Day/night tests of four 100-over days.
If Boycott likes it I may change my mind. Days that long have to favour the batsmen as the bowlers will be knackered. But you could see a result in a day and a half. If we can’t get Smith out we need to skittle through the others quickly.
Aussies now 204-4. Looks like that's the series done right there. England simply had to get them 6 down today, especially after winning the toss and inserting them. A missed opportunity bowling at night and Anderson in particular has been very disappointing. He's bowled too short and this is looking like one tour too many for Jimmy. Everything is panning out the way it looked like it would before a ball was bowled. England's attack is looking rather toothless.
Last over of the day and here comes Anderson with the new ball. Pitch the ****ing thing up for ****'s sake!
To get another 6 wickets for 100 runs we'll need to bowl better than we have so far. I'm not sure we're capable of it.
