He was on there last night - in the studio with the presenters. Was very refreshing and interesting to hear him speak:

There wasn't a great deal of stuff we didn't already know but it was nice that he made himself available and willing to speak to actual fans (and some numpties too!!)

Yes: It is a BBC "Regional" radio station that should have a name that represents the region and not one city within that region.

It’s odd. In Yorkshire, there’s radio York, Radio Leeds, Radio Sheffield and Radio Humberside (I think that’s what it is called). Based off what I presume is radio humberside, I think yours should be called radio Tyne and Wear. Or something similar to represent the region.

We agree and I'm sure it's been put to the BBC who ignored a petition.

Although, that said, it doesn't bother me to the extent it does RAW - but I agree with his reasoning for doing it. I just like listening to the Mod/Punk stuff on a saturday when driving to my gigs!!

Aren’t BBC Radio stations nationwide named based on the city they are in rather than the region?

It’s called Radio Newcastle cos it’s in Newcastle isn’t it? Not offended by that personally.

Mixed bag. Some local BBC stations are named by the town / city, but others aren't.

I agree with RAW though. I don't like tuning in to Radio Newcastle to listen to the Sunderland match

Each to their own I guess, I never listen to Radio Newcastle cos I’m not fussed on the presenters and content, what it’s called is neither here nor there to me.

BBC Radio Berkshire is based in Reading but covers the whole county.

The should have kept the original name BBC Radio Durham :emoticon-0103-cool:

I ****ing love Smooth mate, I love 80s tunes mainly over anything, wasn’t a fan at the time but I’ve kinda gone back over.

Was laughed at at the time but more of the 80’s has been adopted than any other period in reality, was the true start of dance music and hip-hop, was where electronic music developed.

People dressed like twats but even elements of that have been fine tuned now. I’m a child of ‘81 ha.

I''m a child of 81 too. It didn't play 80s when we were younger but it's included now. I love 60 soul, 70s funk and 80s groove so it ticks loads of boxes most of the time for me.

Aye I grew up in a house of music all different kinds so I do like a bit of everything, there’s no such thing as bad music, just music you like, and music somebody else likes.

I grew up to mainly 50s and 60s music my da put on, but loved music from a young age so done most of the exploring myself. 80s groove is my my favorite at the moment. tunes like these.

I also love the way groove, hip hop, electro and early house blend throughout that decade. Fantastic decade of music.

Love all 3 of those tracks mate, Pointer Sisters were wicked proper uplifting, Jocelyn is absolutely heroic to me as a man who adores house music she crossed into that massive time.

Love all the Chaka Khan kinda stuff, you can’t help but buzz off it, obviously MJ as well can never be underestimated he was such a star the man.

Was a great era cos people where basically trying ****, my dad was quite into heavy rock stuff, Mam was Mowtown all day, I never really appreciated the sounds of the kitchen on a Sunday but I do now.

My sister, few years older, introduced me to Depeche Mode and that was where my love for electronic music started, and to this day I love early hip-hop, some of the most natural music there is and will ever be.

Amazing decade for culture, folk just didn’t realise at the time!

Couldn't agree more mate. 80s is seriously emerging as my favorite decade. It's took a bit of time and exploring genras but eventually came across it and can't get enough now. I'm starting a vinyl collection soon and 80s will be my main focus. Plan to develop some sets which span most of these 80s genre. I know my first 5 I'm getting too. Act like you know- Fat Larrys band, Hall and Oats- Out of touch, jocelyn brown- somebody else's guy, the message- grandmaster flash and marshall jefferson- move your body. That should get the ball rolling nicely.
