https://uk.yahoo.com/sports/news/re...htar-block-fonseca-appointment-173553082.html Shaktar blocked Everton's move for Fonseca....even though he agreed to join them. Allardyce originally turned down Everton as they wanted him as a temporary manager, but now they may have to give him the longer contract that he wants. What a mess up....though Allardyce may well do enough to gain a few vital places in the table.
Big Sam is a much maligned football genius. He simply gets the very best out of what is available to him and he does it everywhere. The man deserves more credit and more time in a role. Edit - But yeah in this instance I'd wet my pants if they went down!
It'd be hugely shocking as it would be both his first failure and the biggest relegation of the modern era.
The Moshiri cheque book will have some interesting stubs in it come January if he does go there. He won't bank on "just" a manager making the difference.
Kinda opposite the Everton situation. Since Pulis was jettisoned they have put in two really good performances & were unlucky not to win last night. Alan, may well go in there and screw that up. As for Everton, they just need to do something different.
Fair point but I'd argue Everton purely on the fact they've spent more time in the top flight than any other club and haven't been relegated in over 60 years. Believe they've only spent 4/5 seasons out of the top flight in its history.
And the ownership is a total contrast. Villa were run into the ground over three years, Everton have been aiming for the stars for 12 months! That's the real shocker for me. How they have let this happen.
They spent 200m on mainly crap is the answer to that whilst letting their only goal scorer leave. I said after the summer window that I wasn't that impressed with their business, though never expected them to be doing quite as badly as they are now. Thought they had just solidified themselves as the 7th best team rather than making any roads into breaking the top 6.
There are several similarities between Everton and Saints. A few you can leave as they have little bearing on both teams drop in form. But the overriding similarity is that Everton sold their prime goal getter and didn't replace him. We did the same, only we sold two. The main difference is that last season we had a manager who actually coped admirably, given the circumstances, without the needed replacements, and it took an unnecessary managerial change to find our poorest form [which is hopefully going to come to an end]. Everton made the shortest of short-cuts to poor form.
Everton going down would be like the opposite of Leicester winning the league. Anyway, great to see all our rivals making these horrible panic decisions. This is why a manager transfer window type thing would be bad. It stops everyone else doing stupid things.
Alladyce Statement “I have no ambitions to take another job”. “I want to be able to savour life while I am still relatively young, and when I am still relatively healthy enough to do all the things I want to do, like travel, spend more time with my family and grandchildren without the huge pressure that comes with being a football manager. “This is the right time for me. I simply want to be able to enjoy all the things you cannot really enjoy with the 24/7 demands of managing any football club, let alone one in the Premier League.” "How much........six million a year! Where do I sign. Pints of wine are on me!"
The meltdown over on their forum is spectacular. Especially as they think Sammy Lee is coming to join him
GoT. Far more entertaining than Saintsweb......in fact I'd wager they go to the s-web to cheer themselves up....just not this week!
My old housemate is an Everton season ticket holder and just sent me a video of him throwing his season ticket away The meltdown is strong
