http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kentonline/sport/2011/august/22/dennis_oli.aspx So Hess is still looking for a striker. With no mid-week games surely Hess might be able to find us a player this week seeing as the window closes in 10 days! I know I have said it a lot but who do you think we will get? Lisbie, Byfield and MacDonald have all been mentioned but is there anybody else you think could be a good signing? For me I would like to see us sign two players! Fabian Brandy and Lloyd Owusu, both would be on low wage and would suddenly give us a real good attacking edge. Thoughts?
I was a big fan of Febian Brandy and felt he always looked really dangerous. The only problem was he seemed to pick up a lot of niggling injuries and appeared to play one then miss one. Maybe a little bit lightweight for a long term league 2 player?
Am I the only one who saw Brandy as a one trick pony, that trick being able to run really fast in a straight line?! I can understand why no one lese has signed him up since he was released by Man Utd, he is too one dimesnional even for league 2 and will be found out pretty quickly
I agree that he is lightweight but if you ask any fan they will all say he is worth a punt. Think with Kedwell along side Brandy, Brandy will be able to find holes to burst into because Kedwell will draw a lot of attention from Defender's because he is such a handful.
Just had a quick look at the free agents list and Steve Kabba stands out as someone I would take a look at, never knew Barnet released him
Also what happen to that Kosylo fella we had for a few weeks from Stockport... seem lively enough for the few games I saw him play
BSG- Kabba is apparently still at Barnet and the list hasn't updated in a while so Kabba is out. I agree however that he could of been a good signing, I almost forgot about Kosylo! Your right he did very well and was very surprised he didn't get an offer. But if we were going to offer him something we would have done it a while ago.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricky_sappleton I know he isn't a quick nippy striker but would provide cover for Kedwell?
Isn't Kosylo that fella that has signed for Ramsgate? I seem to remember Hess saying he would be OK if he was fit so was going to Ramsgate to get fit then Hess would have another look at him
no that was a guy with a much more confusing name i thought. can't for the life of me tho. i think we are gonna struggle to find anyone of the quality that we need and or hope for. personally i'd like to see oli given a run as he looked good in preseason and looked good both games he has come on as a substitute, he works the channel well drawing defenders out and leaving more space for kedwell in the middle. maybe not away at rotherham but certainly worth a whole 45 at home
vinney, that player at ramsgate is joseph afusi who you are refering too. steve kabba is at barnet signed new deal with them, now fit again to take his place in the team alongside mcleod... have a good strike force!!! fcklukey what makes you think brandy would be on a low wage ? think there is more to fabian brandy not finding a club yet??? certainly don't want to see darren byfield in a gills shirt again and cody mcdonald is i think just to longer shot to get back down to gillingham fc! UTG!!!
how about trying to get P.Agyemang on loan from QPR cos he doesnt seem to be in there plans unless they are completely out of strikers. wages maybe a problem but a short term loan with QPR paying most of his wages. just a thought / wish
Well when he was at United he was just a kid and I know for a fact that young players at united aren't on a lot. Then being released without a club until Notts County took him on (county are a club that aren't financially better off than ourselves). Then being released by them and now looking down the barrel of a 2nd successive season without a club. If I was him, recently released by a low league 1 club, I would bit your hand off for a deal at a League 2 club looking for promotion and the chance of a decent length deal (2-3 years) Sorry for such the long answer mate but yeah that's why he wont be on much wage!
Agree Hess should go get him(Brandy) even for a months trial...he has no contract after all... Unless he has something better up his sleeve. I don't think Oli is the answer. He is a very good impact player on the wing when brought on late but seems to dissapear from games when he starts (Wembley against Shrews aside)
Seriously I am baffled why Brandy is considered such a good player by some... quick wiki search shows career stats that are, for want of a better pathetic.... Played 59 Scored 8 ... is this the prolific striker we need?!
3 things: I think those Stat's are a little misleading, does that take into account sub appearances? If not you could knock off a lot of those Swansea appearances! Also a lot of those games where in League 1 whereas we are League 2 there is a difference between the two, look at Rene Howe, was poor in League 1 and is taking League 2 by storm with Torquay. Finally I don't think we really are after a 'prolific striker'. I was under the impression we were looking for a player who can play up front and give Kedwell assistance up Birchill is fit again.
Thats not that impressive I admit, a goal every 6.4 games but he is young and will if given a chance I suspect improve that ratio. But compared to Oli 7.6 Mulligan 6.7 or McCammon 8.4 he is a superstar in the making. PS No offence to Oli intended but he is a winger really
Ok I'll tackle your points as laid out by you: 1. Well I don't know if substitute apperences are counted, the source isn't cited on wiki (that I could see) but he scored 4 of his 8 goals whilst on loan at Swansea somif you want to discount his appearences there you have to halve his goal tally, leaving his goals per game total roughly the same. So no improvement there. 2. We are a club looking for promotion this season (and anything less is a failure (to coin a phrase)), therefore any players we are looking to sign should be able to make that step up and sadly Brandy has shown that he can't cut it in L1. But we onlhy need him until Birch is back fit I hear you cry, so if we are only looking for a short term loan we can go to higher league clubs and get young, hungry players in on loan to fill the void. Your Rene Howe comment is pretty spurious too, Ok he has been scoring goals so far but I hardly would call that "taking the league by storm" 3. In the typical big-man/little-man partnership the "little-man" is usually the goal scorer and the "big-man" is the primary provide (although is expected to chip in with his fair share of goals). In the ideal partnership of Birchall - Kedwell (for this club obviously) it is clear that the role of the "little-man", and the therefore the goal scoring expectation falls to Birchall. So if we are looking for a replacement for Birchall (be it temporary or more long term) the pressure will be on for that player to score goals, so I think the club will need to look at a prolific goalscorer
