The acid test. Just how good are Watford this season - mid table also ran's or genuine Europa League qualification contenders? How much better are Manchester Utd this season? Will Silva have the tactical nous to beat his compatriot Mourinho? We'll have a better idea by 10:00pm Tuesday night. Head to Head 29 Apr 2000 Watford v Manchester United L 2-3 Premier League 26 Aug 2006 Watford v Manchester United L 1-2 Premier League 21 Nov 2015 Watford v Manchester United L 1-2 Premier League 18 Sep 2016 Watford v Manchester United W 3-1 Premier League Watford will be looking to put in a performance to match last season's win in front of the cameras. Over a year ago now and the Hornets will field a much changed side from that day where Capoue and Deeney were the top dogs, now likely to be on the bench, Ighalo, Zuniga, Behrami, and Amrabat have all moved on with Cathcart and Success long-term absentees through injury. After an, in social media terms at least, unsettling time through the international break and welcome wins at home to West Ham Utd and away at Newcastle Utd the Golden Boys are seeking to make it a hat-trick of wins against "United". Manchester United are of course, well, Manchester United I suppose: enigmatic, charismatic and (at least in Surrey) expecting to win against little old Watford. It's usually a close run thing here at The Vic but we would benefit from United having an off-day. They have world class players, a proven manger and lie second in the table. But, results notwithstanding, they haven't had it all their own way but will be determined to not lose sight of their City rivals and will be coming for the win. Team News to follow. FEZ SEZ: Watford need to bring our "A Game" for this match, on and off the pitch, to get anything out of it. I almost wish the fixture was at Old Trafford as we appear better suited to playing away from home. We are perfectly capable of repeating last season's result but surely they won't be as bad - but we now have a better team. Everything is relative: 2-2 Wherever you are in the world: Enjoy The Game!
Thanks for the thread Fez. I see that Lukaku has escaped a ban for the game, we might have him throwing his weight about.
Thankfully Prodl is back to catch it and put it in his back pocket - the one he put Ibrahimovic's weight in last season.
Watched Ashley Young who has become quite a regular in the Utd. team at left back. He certainly looks good when going forward but can he defend? There could be an interesting battle down our right wing.
https://www.watfordfc.com/teams/first-team/team-news-manchester-united Britos is a doubt - Prodl standing by for his first start since 26th August. Apparently we haven't conceded a (league) goal when he has been on the field... I'm not sure I like the sounds of Silva's words on Deeney - “He comes back after the ban and is available if I take the decision for him to stay in the squad,” said Silva. “If I decide for him to stay in the squad, he's one more player to help us.”
I am hopeful. It seems we play well against teams that like to come at us -so we do well away from home, and against teams that 'expect' to beat us. Where we have struggled is against teams like Stoke WBA and against Brighton (mitigating circumstances notwithstanding). However, we do seem to give other teams more chances - certainly didn't seem like that in the first few games, so maybe Prodl will help us tighten up. I think femenia/Carillo/Hughes (or whoever)attacking Ashley should be interesting. I'm surprised that Richarlison hasn't tried the other wing - he might frighten Ashley in several respects. However, just imagine that we can casually think of beating Manure, rather than just hoping for a magic performance. Happy days! COYH
I'd take a point. Got to be high on confidence after back to back wins. We'll need that against them..
The muppet who never predicts Liverpool to lose has us down to lose - of course. We are consistently the maximum number of places above his prediction for us out of all the clubs in the league. So I am more optimistic now.
Well Merson says we can get a point and I think we can but will need to be careful in defence and have to take our chances fully.
Well I'm confident. 3-1 the 'orns with a red card for manure when they see it not going their way again. A cruize at the Vic I just think the pressure after recent results is all on them and we have a number of individuals so if they over mark Richarlison then someone like TC can have their day. C'mon u'orns
Will be a very tough game... Shame Pogba is back fit for this. He does seem to make that midfield tick. We know what Man U can do in those last 15/20 mins to finish a team off so we need to be on it for the full 90 No idea how they didn't think Lukaku kicked out (twice)! First one didn't really connect but the intention was there on both! oh wait, it's Man utd... As for Young... he's been very good in that Left Back role. offensively and in defense. Watching him against Brighton at the weekend, he has some of the basics of a good defender. He kept Knockeart quiet, and just had those basics of knowing he likes to cut inside onto his left foot, so was blocking that off, and forcing him onto his right. Let's hope he doesn't do that so much with Hughes

Not tonight's score I hope... I was just mulling over our bench - six out of the seven are internationals. I can remember the days when a Welsh U23 international was the best we could expect...
