Part of me wants to delete this thread - the other part just feels sorry for him. Obviously he has no friends so has to come crawling on here to find people to talk to.

Poor bairn. Knock yourself out fella. And I do mean that literally

I've said it before but the North East needs more than one strong team in order to attract talent who wish to play there and not just those coming for a fat pay cheque.

This is why I may be in the small minority who want both Sunderland and Newcastle to do well. That and also I have good craic with most Sunderland fans (apart from that odd bloke in Shiney Row with one leg who offered me a scrap at half past eight one morning).

A rivalry is just that, I'm mean it's a given that urine will be extracted when one is doing bad, but both to be contesting the rivalry while both are doing well would be the dream. Both as regular euro qualifiers competing in multiple competitions. It's a better rivalry the Man U-Citeh. Imagine the fuss if we could both be successful with it.

I can honestly say that due to our own troubles I haven't even give it a thought. However, now that you have asked, I would imagine that it will go through if Ashley wants it to.

Not at all sure about this.

Her 'Investors' are usually from The Trucial States. Buying a Football Club is just a hobby for them, much like buying a racehorse.
They are looking for 'bragging rights' rather than a profit.

While these bragging rights are being earned, the N/C Fans are going to have fun.

Ashley may need to sell now rather than later as the sell on price may well be down come the end of the season the way they are playing

They still won't be competing with the elite clubs in this country. Nothing much will change really.

I imagine that we'll have our own takeover news in due course. A few wins under Coleman and Ellis might be looking to get out with the threat of a second relegation abating. If we continue to struggle at the bottom it won't happen, but we live in hope. In the meantime, NUFC have relegation issues themselves, judging from MOTD last night. Any new owners will have to give Rafa some proper dosh asap...

I am not in favour of rich owners coming in from abroad and lifting clubs above their natural levels by money alone. Manchester City and Chelsea, for example, were never top of the top flight teams when I was growing up and seeing them with all of this money and competing for honours just seems wrong and just vulgar to me.

If Newcastle go the same way I will be in a mixed mind about it all, to be honest, but these fellows tend not to want to buy a club and not wish to be one of the elite. So, I can see that, if this takeover happens, Newcastle may well end up challenging for the top four continually and only because of stupid funds.

I am not sure that I would want this because this would be another nail in the coffin for 'proper football clubs' and another step to what the Americans mistakenly recognise as sport.

In short, if this takeover happens, a franchise playing in black and white in the west end of Newcastle will be doing exceedingly well and I will perhaps lose even more interest in the club and the game.

I’ve thought about this many times, and I’ve concluded that I’ll be more than delighted if a rich Arab or whatever wants to come in and buy us a trophy.

Now, besides this, Manchester City are the best fan club in the world, they have built a magnificent club with foundations, employed thousands of people and regenerated the area.

Anyone who says they wouldn’t wanna see their club do that, well I find it hard to believe.

They managed to turn a profit as well did City, admittedly there is absolutely no question that the financials of Etihad are linked to their owners and inflated to fiddle the FFP rules.

Nah, where will it end? 8 teams in a supposed super league? Multi-millionaires running around (when they feel like it), crooked agents checking in on their investments from their hideaways in the Caribbean, crooked investors laundering their money........oh yea, we are almost there already. £600 million for a player, lol the world has gone mad: stop I want to get off!

It will never be 8 teams in a Super League. They would lose the very thing hey are chasing in money, as people wouldn’t wanna watch that.

Even to form a European Super League they would need to leave FIFA or the national teams wouldn’t be allowed to compete, and if they were gonna ditch FIFA the prime moment was a year or so back.

Remember, the Premier League deal dwarfs the Champions League one, why on earth would a team want to leave the Premier League?

The Germans wouldn’t do it, if anyone lead it it would be PSG and the Italians, who nobody really gives a **** about.

I can see an expansion of the CL format, indeed UEFA have already moved and guaranteed the top 4 countries 4 entries to CL group stages, this was absolutely done to appease the Italians, so we are looking at PSG to lead the biggest teams in their leagues into a new format?

Na, I don’t see it. If it ends with multiple clubs like City, United and Chelsea, profit generating and boosting the local communities, that’s better than clubs fighting to stay alive, surely?

We are a prime example, hugely in debt, no prospect of competing. If the money dried up tomorrow our club would close, and another 60 or so would join us.

We all love the idealistic of football being just sport, it isn’t, it’s huge business, it’s massive employment in the city, it’s far, far beyond sport.

Some, a lot of the romance is dead, but do we wanna go back to waterlogged pitches and kicking **** out of better teams, or do we want to watch players who drop your jaw? The standard of football we see from the top teams is breathtaking, and I for one love watching them, I’ll always be Sunderland but do I love watching the CL? Barca v United? City v Juve? ****ing right I do, but it’ll never replace my team and it will never top domestic rivalry, bantering about it.

You think City fans wanna rub it in Gianni for Turin’s face or Tels from Salford?

People say fans haven’t the power, actually we have it all, we stop paying Sky, buying merchandise and the money ****s off. We’ve more influence than ever cos the advertising revenue etc is exactly what attracts the investors. The only thing that doesn’t contribute is gate receipts, a pittance in comparison to the revenue that is only generate because fans wanna watch.

£600 Million Messi? Sponsors pay for that in days if not hours, money from outside the game.

Pity Man U took the piss out of your three games in hand & 12 point lead.

Would love to see some levelling of the playing field, maybe a salary cap

I believe he’s whacked that into the asking price for the club. Otherwise there is no way we are worth what he’s wanting

Problem with that is how can they? How can they tell a company what it can pay its employees effectively?

Effectively a football club is a private owned business for the most part. They couldn’t get away with it, it would be challenged and they would lose that challenge.

I agree it would open the game up and be a good thing, it simply isn’t feasible.

I understand where you're both coming from.
If I was a bricklayer on a building site I'd expect to be on the same as all the other bricklayers.
But, if one brickie is laying bricks faster than another then he should get more imo.

Aye it’s such a grey area mate, even with a salary cap, only the top players would get the top level anyway and they’d STILL want to go to the bigger clubs, so would it make a difference?

For all that clubs are struggling, there are also many positives from the massive money etc, most of the money remains TV money coming in from News Corp (Sky) into the game and into communities, that’s a good thing.

Let’s not forget where City where, that takeover could have happened to more or less anyone in reality, City had the fortune that Etihad Airlines hub out of Manchester.

I still maintain that apart from the diving and cheating football is a far better game to watch than it was 20 years back, money has aided the game for me not killed it, we just wish the distribution was a bit more even.

United lead the way setting up a proper marketing team and bringing Asian money, the PL themselves followed and absolutely nailed this route.

Any club can put together a great PR team if they recruit and pay correctly and that’s one way to compete.

Many of the top products are in reality little better than the ‘average’, they are just marketed right. I won’t have anything but an iPhone, despite knowing for a fact Samsung phones are as good, arguably better, but cheaper.

I work for a company with a marketing budget that is over £1.3million per day. That’s how you get and stay on top and almost any club in the top 2 leagues could grow that way.

How about if they were put on performance related pay?
    Like piece work in industry?
You turn more parts out, lay more bricks, you get more money.
If you're a lazy **** & can't be arsed to put some effort in you get your flat rate.
That's the way it works in factories.
