I've enjoyed watching the meltdown online about Wearing Funny Laces Day. Some seriously upset nutters because a bunch of footballers changed a part of their footwear.
I never noticed until I saw the guys in the studio wearing badges. Most interesting to hear that Rio and lamps grew up together from a young age, were room mates etc bit then refused to talk to each other for years Also said players on England duty didn't talk to each other, eat together etc as they represented different clubs and this may have been a reason why the golden gen won nothing Also lamps, Rio, Stevie G said they never had a good manager at England
How the **** does a national team manager allow such obvious divisions within his squad? Ludicrous. Hardly a surprise to hear that lot blame the coaches, though. They share that blame, for me. Maybe if they'd have been talking to each other, then they might've been able to find a ****ing solution? Tossers.
Tbf they all said that they take personal responsibility looking back as they see it as a failure. Apparently st one stage they had their own tables, shearer had his own. Then they tried one table but it became cliques too They all said their was no philosophy and in Rios words it was hard to be excited knowing you were going to get popped as soon as you came up against say Uruguay or someone. The 442 was that rigid and in a hot climate you got overrun by their MF Some really great insight imo
Shearer had his own table? Sounds like a lovely bloke. I wonder why he failed miserably as a manager? If it's all cliques, then split it up or start dropping players. It's not ****ing hard. Don't want to integrate? **** off, then. Next! The current England side's not amazing and the manager's ****, but I doubt even Southgate would put up with that crap. Just boot a few out and explain why you've done it. You can't succeed with a divided house.
I wonder who promoted that mentality? <cough> Fergie. <cough> His memory doesn't seem great, either. He didn't go to Man Utd, he went to Leeds. Lampard stayed at West Ham for a season, too. If Real Madrid and Barca can manage it, then perhaps the issue is club coaches intentionally undermining the national team? Ferdinand doesn't seem like the sort of person that suddenly comes up with an idea about rivalry like that, to me.
Not sure it was fergie, or just fergie tbh. I hasn't seen that before just what was discussed yesterday and all 3 of lamps, Rio and Stevie G said they all had that mindset. It seemed to come from them rather than management, but no doubt it was encouraged Think it was Stevie g who said about the tables. Think Rio was most honest and started it but the other 2 were saying the same. Rio was alsonthe one saying we had all these guys who could play in MF but a rigid 442 meant as soon as we qualified and came up against decent opposition we were passed off the aprk and chasing shadows (that's my words as I can't remember verbatim) All of them said they disnt have a manager etc but despite all the **** a managed a QF and what could have been of all had been harmonious Strangest thing, for me, was that they were envious about those around them were going to join their countries and were happy but they weren't. They reckon southgate has been focussing on getting rid of some of that hence using youngsters who don't have that mindset Its ****erees though and fans being robbed IMO. Another hammer blow for international football and why people tend yo be club focused as fans
The supposed Golden Generation had Beckham, Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard and Carrick to pick from in midfield. Neville, Terry, Ferdinand, Carragher and Ashley Cole at the back and Rooney, Defoe and the like up front. They failed to even qualify for Euro 2008. They should be ashamed of themselves and they're playing it up as being too loyal to their teams. It's not that, it's that they're egotistical arseholes with no sense of perspective.
Don't forget Hargreaves in MF. Brilliant player ruined by injury Again I agree and tbf they all spoke about looking back with regret for not taking responsibility. Mentioned how they didn't see anything wrong with it at the time, only realising after. I believe it personally. I think there is an English mentality with players that is detrimental. Saw it with likes of David Bentley and many young stars to be who ended up at man city and Chelsea to sit in the bench and ruin their careers. Not a dig at the clubs.
They don't have the excuse of blaming the English mentality, as they played with people from all over the world. Fat Frank was playing with Makelele, Carvalho, Ballack and the like back in 2007/08. Ferdinand was playing with Ronaldo, van der Sar, Tevez, Park and others. If this is something that's particular to English football, then where did it come from and why? They need to sort that **** out and eradicate it, if they want the national team to progress. These players are acting like it's just a natural thing and it's clearly not. They learned it. Who taught it to them?
That's what I can't understand. Likes of cantona, di canio even changed training methods and drinking cultures etc but not the "look I've made it" that our youngsters seem to develop. As I utd fan I see pogba and ravel and think why and how did 2 guys develop such a different mentality. That's just 1 example Even these 3 when discussing it mentioned how likes of Rinaldo, Alonso etc were so happy and looking forward to meet up and play for their country. I'm reminded of Gnev standing next to schmeichel when city played utd and gbev refused to shake hands even though Pete went over grinning like an old friend. I see commentators seeing compatriots on opposing teams hug after a defeat and criticising for being friendly towards opposition players Don't know the answer tbh but it can't just be managers I mean how do you enforce that? In the normal world you would talk to strangers if the situation arose.
You might not be able to enforce it, but you can sure encourage it and build it into a dressing room. Building up an us against the world mentality is easy enough and this is just a step from that. Managers like Ferguson and Mourinho love that **** and have no respect for sportsmanship or similar concepts. Shearer and Gerrard appear to have suffered from the same thing though, so it's not just coming from them. The biggest difference between these players and the likes of Ronaldo and Alonso for me is that they don't care. They don't have a winner's mentality when it comes to their national team. It's a distraction and something that they can do without. They love the extra money from sponsorships and the like, but they'd rather have a holiday and avoid any criticism. Rooney's whole rant when he played **** against Algeria summed it up. The prick:
