Not sure if it's already been mentioned, but did anyone else think Jonas had quite a good game against the mackems?

Yes, it was good but not a stand out performance like some of the defence had but when you take in the fact that there was no Jose there to lay him off, give him cover etc he coped remarkably well, I'll even hazard a guess that this could improve his attacking play.

What can really irritate me about the right flank is that the likes of Obertan and Simpson will piss about on the side of the box, not committing any defenders and eventually losing the ball. Jonas on the other hand was nearly the opposite on Saturday and skipped past defenders creating havoc in the box and getting a shot or two away, he won the wining free kick by doing this as well.

Maybe now that Jose is gone, Jonas is taking it more upon himself to create these attacking movements.

    Anyone else agree?

Just hope he takes the leaving of Jose as a sort of kick up the backside that hes going to have to take more responsibility

Jonas did very well. He seemed like the only guy with the quality to get the ball right up that left flank and into dangerous positions. I saw almost nothing on the right side, but on the left, Jonas got it up there and you could see him trying to figure out how to get through once he was in the final third. One of his attempts eventually led to the foul which led to the free kick and our goal.

Not forgetting that he also now has competition with the arrival of Marveux.

We could see him have his best season ever even though that does seem a bit optimistic.

I think we're in for a good Jonas season with more skilled players in the team. His end product dramatically improved over the course of last season too.

He doesnt have Jose to do his crossing for him anymore. Anyone see the cross he put in with his right think in the 1st half

  8. Jonas and Colo have taken their time but they're up to speed now.

That ball to Shola from Jonas was ****ing awesome. But unfortunately Shola couldn't do anything with it.

Jonas is doing well. And the main reason he doesn't get like 12+ assists is because he gets hacked 50% of the time, and wins us freekicks instead.

IMO who ever wins a pen or a FK should get an assist, if you score from them. This being so, Jonas would be in the double figures.

He's good enough to be in the first team of any team below the top 6 IMO.

I thought that he had another good game. Got forward when he could and caused problems but also tracked back to double up with Raylor.

Two solid performances from him so far.

Marveux seems a similar type of player so it could be interesting to see how that pans out.
Maybe it's worth one game playing Marveux on the left and Jonas on the right just to see if it works.

Very important player, and we'd be a different side without him, his workrate is phenomenal.

I'd say it's been 2 very mature performances from him. He realised he'd be needed in defense more than last season but then attacked when he started getting faith in Raylor. I was really impressed.

I always thought that Jonas played on the left because he wanted to link up with Enrique. Now he's gone, he should move over to the right and let Marveaux slot in the left. Move Barton back to CM.

    -------Barton - Tiote - Cabaye-------
    Jonas------------------------ Marveaux
    -----------Ba/New striker------------

More or less a three pronged attack with Jonas and Marveaux playing as advanced wingers. Barton Tiote and Cabaye can very comfortably handle the midfield.

Mind you, when Ben Arfa returns, we'll need him in the hole, so we may need to sacrifice either Marveaux or Jonas and push Barton out wide again:

    -----------Tiote - Cabaye---------------
    Barton ------------------------ Marveaux/Jonas
    ---------------Ben Arfa------------------
    ------------Ba/New striker---------------

Looks pretty lethal that. Both formations do.

I think Jonas plays on the left because it causes confusion with the fullback, or whoever is marking him. His left foot is pretty good compared to his right, which cant be said for a lot of players, so they dont know if he will cross or cut inside onto his favoured foot. If deployed on the right they would know all he can really do is go to the byline and cross, it wouldnt be the same, tricky Jonas. Would make Simpson look a lot better though.

Thought he was phenomenal for a spell in the second half, best I've seen him play for a while going forward, then he got a kicking from clattermole and went off the boil.

He needs someone to gee him up again when that happens

  19. Trying to be funny and failing mate. That **** is old.

He was man of the match because he raped Sunderland and was awesome in defense.
