It's not exactly clear, but I read that as superior GD in a head -to -head, not overall. Therefore, if the decision is between Utd and CSKA then the current difference is only 3 as Utd won the first game 4-1.

The only scenario that the mancs would not qualify is when they all finish on 12 points. The point b (GD) will need to be considered before point c (Goals scored).

 

They need 7 to take it to the away goals count, without that they are on lower GD so would lose out to us, ffs are you a bit slow?

 

I think the discussion was about the scenario where the mancs FAIL to qualify. The only way that can happen is when ALL 3 teams have 12 points, because they already have 12 points. So that means taking into account the GD between the 3 teams not just 2. If that makes sense.

So going with point B according to UEFA .com and my maths ( that could be wrong) the relative GD's between all three teams (if it is all 3)
Manu 7-2
Basle 4-5
CSKA 3-7

is this right?

so assuming your GD are correct,

Manu 7-2 = +5
Basle 4-5 = -1
CSKA 3-7 = -4

Remember that the Basle GD is now fixed and complete. All they need to do is get 3 points to go level with the mancs on 12.

For United NOT to qualify they need to have GD worse than BOTH of the others. If they are better than one of them they qualify. SO, for them to fail to qualify they must a GD of -2 (meaning they have to concede 7 goals). A GD of -1 is not good enough for that scenario as that brings them level with Basle and they have scored more goals than them. Hope that makes sense.

 

No wonder UEFA never have any time to look into things like corruption and cheating - they're too busy trying to work out the maths.

 

It took me a while to understand this. The papers do not help by saying that Mourinho has still a lot of work to do and that they need at least point to qualify. But then they wouldn't have the sensationalist back page headlines...
