Another point on the board by Steve Lovell :)

But now Steve has a contract will this be good enough for the fickle fans, as a certain not606 member posted on twitter, 1-0 down at half-time, will the fans start calling for his head.

Actually this has given me a new idea for an ongoing thread, titled 'Fickle Fan Watch' <laugh>

Sadly it is true that after last nights results we are closer to 24th place and further away from the playoffs, however, taking the last 4 games away from home we are 1st in the form table, 1st, 1st, 1st, I like the sound of that.
Our problem is home form, over the last 4 home games we are 22nd in the form table, just hasn't got the same ring to it as 1st.
Oldham are next up and whilst they are one of the top teams for goals scored, they also have the worst defensive record in the league, our players need to get a few more shots on target and we could win this one.

To be fair grumpygit, I honestly do not think there is much between the clubs in this league this season. We've already proved under Lovell we can compete with the best of L1. The problem lays because we was already deep in this position in the first place, now it is one hell of a climb out, every time we win, so do those around us. We know the safety net is 51-53 points, that is one hell of a way off as we approach the halfway stage.

So the problem now is this consistency cannot last, at some point we are going to falter, but at the same time there are only nine points between us and 7th place. This season is going to go right to the wire, but one bit of good news, anyone remember Bradford some seasons back? They were in a similar position as us after their exploits in the cup and ended up vying for the play-offs 1st 1st 1st 1st, keep that up (unlikely) and who knows or am i just fantasising :)

    On a more serious note.
It wasn't pretty to watch at Walsall - but effective ! I wasn't able to go to Blackpool last night ( I had an important appointment this morning - and didn't fancy getting into bed at 5am and up at 8am !! ).
Listening to last night's commentary, it was obvious that the performance was similar to that of Saturday - and we were rewarded with a point. I am under no illusion - we simply haven't got the quality in our current squad to worry the top 6 places-- we seriously lack creativity to score enough goals --- but if we can be difficult to score against, we have a reasonable chance to avoid relegation - ' just .' ----- at least, in Lovell, we have a manager who is able to recognise when we need to change players and formations - instead of hurtling headlong to one defeat after another.

I have always said that I don't expect The Gills to storm the leagues - but - there are only a limited number of times when we will 'cope' with players who are 'overachieving'. Scally has seen us deteriorate rapidly in the last couple of years. We really need to invest in a bit of quality. We should have some funds available from Centreplate - we should seriously consider wise investment in the right personnel - otherwise we will just keep on fighting relegation - until it happens, then happens again........................ mind you, brb will be happy in the National league --- well - I'll be too fickle to do a 100 mile journey for home games.
