Agree 100% regards whitefriargate while a lot of work has gone into upgrading the pavement etc, the heart (shops) have gone out of it. I
always come over to Hull early on match days and have a wander around the city centre although on the last mid-week game against Boro, felt embarrassed to be from Hull, in Queen Victoria sq a group of visitors( from the far east i think) on a tour by the looks, were stood outside the maritime museum ,a city of culture volunteer was talking to them as a group ,on benches nearby were a group of street drinkers every second word coming from these lowlife appeared to be "****" and the odd "****s" thrown in for good measure i must have been 20/30 yards away as i passed and i could hear them clearly so they must have, when i think back the only time i've seen police in the centre away from pubs where fans are gathering are two armed one's stood outside city hall last saturday.

Isn't whitefrigate owned by Trinity house. Who charge astronomic rents for the shops.

Don't know if lower rent/rates would solve the problem but something needs to happen. The rest of the old town is pretty special now, it would become spectacular if Whitefriargate was thriving.

So TGI Friday turned down Princes Quay after receiving interest elsewhere - the staples site?

Knew I wasn’t reading it right. I’ve got that post and one on the previous page mixed up.

Sounds as though they’re struggling to fill the restaurant units on the ground floor in PQ then.

I thought it was the rates that had doubled or something. Whatever, location costs appear to be prohibitive from what is said.

Back at the planning inquiry. Highlight so far is a claim the city centre would lose an annual £33m spend if new shops & restaurants were allowed in Kingswood.
