Regarding technology, my view is that the game is reffed by an official who is in the stands watching the game on multiple TVs with multiple views etc. He then makes his decision and ‘wires’ it to another official who is on the pitch who simply relays the decisions.

That way, you have a ref who has instant access to replays etc etc which should cut out errors and bad decisions.

And I think we definitely need video tech for offsides - the rule change to incorporate second phases of play makes it so difficult for refs.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...ter-gate-irresponsible-baiting-storm-tea-cup/

Has anyone seen this media storm in a literal teacup.

    It's ridiculous.

A hack posted his combine spurs arsenal xi which was all spurs players so cheeky as **** basically.. after winning arsenal post a gif which is the equivilant of them doing an astro saying that went well.

The hack had the temerity to say they say 12million Twitter accounts on him and he got raging abuse. He also claims his editor made him do one. He ignores how He decided every spurs player is better than arsenal players

First he's in the public. He has deliberately baited arsenal in the first place so prob got lots of hate anyway but arsenal do something quite funny and he has a go.

It's basically hacks lining up saying they can say anything they like aboutyou1 but don t dare Mae fun of us.

Arsenal don t control scumbags online. My advie to him is get a life, stop biating clubs with cheap shots and report the abuse to the police for the accounts to be suspended and people arrested.

Klopp: What can I say about Firmino? He's like the engine of the team

Jürgen Klopp has acclaimed the form of Roberto Firmino, describing the forward as the ‘engine’ of his Liverpool team.
The No.9 has excelled during the Reds’ run of four consecutive victories, with his tireless pressing from the front causing problems for the opposition and creating openings for his team.
And though Firmino has only found the back of the net once during Liverpool’s quartet of back-to-back wins, Klopp is convinced the Brazilian soon be back on the goal trail himself.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, the boss said: “What a player! What can I say? If he loses the ball, he fights for it back. If he loses it again, he fights for it.
“He looks like the engine of the team. In the game [against Southampton], he was not scoring or [was] being a step too far left or right in the goalscoring moments. Then he shoots, it’s saved but Phil scores. But he stays in the game.
“I really like how the crowd appreciate it. It’s really nice to see and he deserves it, he works so hard.
“They all work hard, but as a striker of course you always think you should score as well. He will, 100 per cent.”
Klopp continued: “I am really pleased with the squad. They have to prove themselves again [tonight], but the progress we’ve made again is pleasing.
“In this season, we settled a little bit, had a knock, but then we came back and that’s a good sign - a really good sign - so we need to carry on.
“Now, we can talk about whatever we want and if we lose [against Sevilla] we will talk about something new, but it’s exactly the same situation.
“We need the results, but the only thing we can do is be as well prepared as possible – that’s what we are and so let’s try to go there, play football and win the game.”

I don't agree with serious abuse or anything discriminatory, but yeah - they have to be prepared to take **** since that's what they come out with most of the time.

they bascially blame arsenal cos apparently arsenal know some of their fans cause them trouble and they tweeted to 12il of them all but inviting them to laugh at them.

the only difference apparently is the hacks "fans" are far less and its ok to laugh at arsenal.

    really precious IMO.

plus it s a daily mail hack as well...... imagine a daily mail man can't take it.

    he tweeted the following

"I picked a team. Arsenal won. I look a bit silly. Congrats to Arsenal.

"But since they tweeted it to 12m people, I've had all-day harassment on here, including anti-Semitic, homophobic abuse & people wishing me dead.

"I can handle it but would not advise clubs repeat this."

An Arsenal club spokesman said: "No offence was intended and we are disappointed that the journalist has been subject to abuse which we would condemn in the strongest terms."

He's no right to tell clubs not to hand back a bit of a laugh at his patently ridiculous post.

for the record... bellarin and sanchez minimum should make a combined spurs arsenal team

sure say kane, alli, erikson, dier probably lloris, alrderwiereld too. You can debate on LB, second CM and maybe on a Cb... no way this team is right

Lloris; Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen; Trippier, Dier, Winks, Rose; Eriksen, Alli; Kane (3-4-2-1)

thats what he picked... seriously... snachez is a wet weekend in england, trippier isn't half the player bellarin is, winks? nah....

others were 9-2 or 8-3 and didn't get any attention.

Like Mito said, he would have got plenty of abuse from his initial WUM, all Arsenal did was give him greater exposure. Why must Arsenal have the foresight for any inflamatory repercussions but not the initial poster?

I really hope it never comes to that. Refereeing from the stands could never work imo.
A ref on the ground is much closer to the action and sees all the little tugs and kicks and niggles far better than anyone in the stands, even if they have the aid of cameras.
How often have you screamed abuse at the ref only to see he was right on replay? They'll never get everything right, but they're still in the best place to try. The only advantage a video ref has is the benefit of replays, but we can't have the game stopped every few seconds so he can look at everything from six angles.
Imo, we really have to stop thinking that we can somehow make the game "perfect". It won't happen, and it's not necessary.

    Niasse getting done for diving.

I'm a bit mixed about this. It was a dive (in that he went down way too easily and he did it on purpose) but on the other hand if Niasse had carried on running properly, he would have been slowed down because Danns fat body was in the way and that did impede his run. Dann came in, missed the ball and obstructed him.

Probably not the view of most on here though <laugh>

    you are right there.

astro is also right about wearable tech revolutionising these marginal calls.

    ball in net easy.

is one guys sensor closer to goal than anothers? easy. sensor in balls telling that its been kicked. easy.

    etc etc.

So the BBC football commentator Guy Mowbray is pushing for Giggs to get the Wales job.

Ryan Giggs: Why the ex-Manchester United man divides opinion over the Wales manager job

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42052214

"He was infamous for not attending friendlies. Who knows whether ex-Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had something to do with that? Whatever the reason, Giggs' reputation suffers with some because of it."

Maybe Guy Mowbray should have read Giggs book, Giggs was quoted earlier in the article as saying,

And writing in his autobiography, Giggs explained: "At that time, whenever I played two games in one week I always seemed to pick up an injury, so [Alex Ferguson] and I sat down and looked at it game by game. If the international was a friendly, the feeling was that I didn't have to play."

So he never played a friendly game for his country for 9 years?, doesn't deserve the job, it should be given to one of the other choices in the vote at the bottom of the article, but as there are more Utd fans than Welsh supporters it's no surprise that Giggs is leading their poll which they'll take as confirmation that the vast majority of the Welsh support want him to get the job because it suits them.<laugh>
