Does Arsene Wenger realise how many Arsenal fans have lost faith in his leadership skills over the last 4-5 months? I was always an ardent supporter of the Frenchman but like many I now have serious doubts as to wether he's the right man to take the club forward. He's always been ambiguous with answers in interviews but recently he's sounding downright delusional. I personally think Wenger has 9 days to save his career/legacy. The atmosphere at the Emirates has been getting increasingly hostile and fans will completely turn if we lose to Udinese and United. (it would be a huge shame if the once great man ended his Arsenal career by being sacked by the board) Signings have to be made both to improve the squad and appease the fans.
I think it is a bit sensationalist to say Arsene has 9days to save his job..... It is an open secret, I am not a great fan of the Prof. I think the Board is 90% culpable in the situation we find ourselves. They knew Fabregas was going to leave, they dragged this on for a measly £5million..... Mata was identified as a suitable replacement, they dithered and dithered.... This is not Wenger's fault is it? The next best player, was allowed to run down his contract to the bone, we are now in a position where they have to sell or risk losing him for nothing..... Again no replacement? Again not Wenger's fault. There was talk of being very active in the transfer market..... Transactions should have been concluded by now, new players would have used the pre-season to gel in...... Wenger privately knows what the team needs.... but we wait until the last day of the transfer window as usual. We could be out of the CL by Wednesday night and be bottom of the league with no goals scored after 3 games. The natives are getting increasingly disllusioned and venting their spleen on the "poor" players, it's hardly their fault is it....... They are being asked to do an almost impossible task and being booed off the pitch afterwards. Finally, who is really responsible for bidding/buying players.... All Wenger can do (I think) is identifying the talent, I don't think it is down to him to set the price.... so if that is true, then how can he get the sack for the Board's inertia in the transfer market?
Well not exactly. Wenger needed to assertain at the START of the transfer window wether Fabregas and Nasri where staying or leaving. He never committed one way or the other so the board never had a chance to sign replacements.
The board AND Wenger are at fault. "nobody is leaving the club" ! Oh ... really ??? "I will buy players in the summer" ! Oh .... really ?? "I will only buy players better than what I have" ! Oh ... really ?? "I will not be rushed into buying players" ! You had the entire summer you fool.
Wenger like any manager signified his intention.... to keep Fab and Nasri. But like every fan wanted the duo to stay. But it must have been apparent to the people in charge of contract negotiations that these 2 were not going to stay. It is also obvious from recent pronouncements from the prof, he is not fully versed in these matters. What could Wenger have done to make these 2 stay... rename Arsenal Barcelone (in the case of Fab) and offer Nasri 190K per week? I think replacements were identified, but the club was not happy to pay the going rate!
Arsenal's wagebill now stands at nearly £120M a season, you have to ask where does that go? And the answer is; On outrageously high salaries to attract unproven, but potentially very good, youngsters from around the world. Nothing wrong with that as a policy if it is PART of the Plan, but it seems, with the odd exception, it is the ENTIRE Plan. Leaving insufficient funds to attract Players who are ready made has cost Wenger.
Technically he didn't lie about his second point... He's brought in three players so far although how good they'll be remains to be seen. Personally I'm very encouraged by two, the third I'll wait and see on. PS I'm as frustrated as the next man but this booing isn't going to encourage the team, let alone make any prospective new players want to sign. ****s me right off.
I REALLY doubt it. The board can only re-iterate the fact Wenger has ample funds soo many times. People would be less upset if the reasoning for us not buying was that we dont have the money available. But we do. Wenger hates spending millions of pounds on players and has spoken of his distain for the modern transfer market on numerous occassions.
I think we've all read the article in the link posted by EmirAleks and if this was plausible, it certainly sounds it, then Arsene Wenger is in an almost impossible position in attempting to sign big players yet with his hands tied by the board, unable to pay their salaries. So by that count he is always left with trying to make the best of less expensive and younger players with the view and hope of honing their skills and at this, he is almost without peer. the board would prefer him to go out and buy players so as to appease us, the fans. This route surely yields nothing and is therefore money down the drain which is why Arsene speaks of bringing in only quality that is above what we currently have in the squad. I believe Arsene realises, it's the board that doesn't. This same board which Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith believes should be fired.
I think the only think Wenger could have been guilty is foolishly towing the party line and not blowing the whistle on his paymasters! I genuinely feel the money is not there! Otherwise why would you make a lower bid this year for the same player you made a bid for last year? Or is that Wenger's fault as well?
I agree with your last point, we have an awful amount of young players in our ranks, we need to build them up.... I don't know what the booing will achieve..... I think it is better to stay away rather than boo our players.... it is not their fault is it, we had no less than 3 debutants on Saturday for crying out loud!
Barca made a lower bid for Fabregas this year so that in itself is no massive surprise. But £10m is a pee take .. considering he spent £12m on a Div 1 player .. Oxlade-Chamberlain.
I cannot say I am against booing, how else do we let the club know we are not happy. Booing the team off or on is not the same as booing individual players. Its easy to say not to come but be realistic, that's not going to happen. We pay through the nose, we have a voice and we are using it to show our displeasure !!! WE are NOT happy with the club.
It's funny though, that the 2 cheaper players are the encouraging ones. The expensive 1 hasn't even played a minute for us yet.
True. If we have the money available to spend £12-14 Million on an 17 year old from Southampton we can afford the likes of Juan Mata.
Considering that those asking the questions are the same trash that are looking to bring him down, how can you blame him for giving them the runaround? ....and the board won't sack him for following their orders. To even suggest that Wenger kept the board in the dark over Cesc & Nasri is complete tosh. All many seem to do is make negative posts, based upon nothing more than guesswork, assumptions & speculation. Why not assume he is buying in a number of top class players before the window closes instead? Can we all get back to being proper supporters now and start treating alleged fans that conjure up nothing but baseless doom and gloom threads as WUMs?
Didnt both Stan Kroake and Usmonov both say they wanted to invest if they took over. They see the commercial sales coming up as a way to make money. INvest now then when emerites comes under evalution for further sponser **** if we win a few things and spend millions we can make it back on them, I mean look at united aon and citeh's deals.
The money is there no question. We have £30 M from the sale of Cesc and his wages (£90-100k/wk), Clichy and Eboue £12M and another £100k/w and if the Nasri deal goes thru circa £20M and his wages. That should buy us Jagielka, Hazard and one other quality player withe no overall increase in cost.
