Hayes was the only “Fans Director” in football history who flatly refused to do what he was supposed to do - represent fans who elected him (I didn’t, and he won with 454 votes on a 0.1% turnout). Worse than that, he went native to such as extent - luxuriating on CL in the “I have been told such and such but can’t pass it on” type comments that he actually fed back to fans criticism and barbed comments that his hero - “Muzza” - had made of them. As for Everitt, it wasn’t only Waggot he undermined. Remind me again why he was sacked, These things are bound to happen when you appoint your inexperieced & unqualified mates to jobs.
Steve was a football man. Is a football man. Because Rick told people that we were taking 416 to Nottingham Forest away, people took his word as gospel. And he then went on to tell some absolute tales when he was shunned for a job he felt entitled to. The truth is, a few of the people he cosied up to at Charlton were the incompetent ones. Well that’s how a lot of the external partners saw it
My main gripe is when someone does it and gets fellow fans excited. Deplorable in my eyes. No, this isn’t in reference to RE .
Another problem with Rick is that he’s unashamedly somewhat left wing politically. I’m sure this didn’t sit too well with the majority of directors and was always in the background when it came to his involvement with the club....whether that was justified or not unfortunately it would certainly have been a concern as to a perceived view of them and in turn there’s of his. Hypothetical as my suggestion may be.......I think it may well have played a part in his departure.
They knew he was a member of the Labour Party when they took him on. I can't see why they would sack him for that, they would have been slaughtered when he appealed against it.
Thanks for the clarification SuperChrissy. Good to get some background on what had previously occurred other than from just a singular source of information I get.
Dear old Ponders on here and The Flying Monk on ITTV both had me convinced they were ITK. Excellent posters both of them, and I take my hat off to them . You believe what you want to believe, we all do it.
True.....but two things. They may not have realised how left wing he was. As for them sacking him for that I’m not saying that’s why he was sacked only that it may have had an unspoken bearing on it and there’s no way it would have come out in any hearing as it could never be proved.......could it.
As much as Royston wishes it were - I don’t think being left wing is grounds to sack somebody for gross misconduct.
Like many hard left “socialists”, Rick was left wing until it came to eying Waggot’s £500,000 a year salary.
Let’s make this clear......he is a very active member if nothing else. I am in NO WAY saying this was a reason for his departure but that it might have made some directors a little nervous about cuddling up to him and without openly declaring their feeling about that, it may have been a contributing factor in not being sorry to see him depart......that’s all. I may be well wide of the mark.....but something tells me it just might be true......who knows.
In fairness to Ponders, his prediction that Roland will sell during this season still stands firm. TFM is an entirely different kettle of fish, for although he undoubtedly knows a lot of people, he probably just embellished the takeover rumours in order to wind up Odious Addick. P.S) Ponders, The Flying Monk and I are all different people = Ponders, Ducker and Benny Hill Addick.
