I bought VOTV from Rick, and said "You'd better be right this time" in what I thought was a friendly manner, but he took my £2 and said nothing.
One of Everitt’s hallmarks, going back to the Valley Party days (where he did well) and then as an employee at Charlton, is his arrogance and basic unclubability. He is a one man band - the Rick Everitt Party - it’s his way or the highway. His big mistake in this era was to think he still held the same clout as he had back in the 80s with our fan base - it is undeniable that the protests fatally stalled once he grabbed that megaphone. I would be interested to know how many Charlton fans aged under 25 buy the VOTV. Not very many.
Not surprisingly as that age bracket you'll probably find do not buy a programme either. We'll have to agree that you are wrong on this one Mr van Gerwen. You don't hide the fact that you do not like him, fair enough, I find it hard to believe people do not like me, but some people do, but Everitt bleeds Charlton and that cannot be denied. He is a leader and not many would devote the hours he does in the cause of Charlton Athletic Football Club. Rick Everitt
The only people who don’t like you amongst our fan base are Apologists or internet keyboard warriors. Or both in Essex Al’s case. Honest question - how has Rick Everitt helped the anti-Duch protests?
you are great for a bite on Everitt old son!!!!! To be honest it could be said that the protests have not made a jot of difference to the Belgians, I can see that argument. The fella has been the focal point behind all this, you must realise that. **As this might run** I need to be in bed by 22.00 and I'm trying to sort out trips to Madrid and Poland whilst I am trying/taking the p*** out of you
The point about RE is his claim to have contacts which make him ITK. He has set himself up to be knocked down if the take-over doesn't happen any time soon.
Indeed Everitt has gambled with his credibility, and there are many people now who put little store by what he claims to know nowadays. And there's not much point denying that he has an agenda - almost certainly not an entirely selfless one. But from the little of him I know, I am willing to believe that he would not deliberately harm Charlton Athletic in order to get what he personally wants. That is the greatest difference between him and Duchatelet. For all his mistakes and misjudgments I personally believe RE does care, whereas I am certain that RD does not. And Duchatelet has all the power. He can reshape the Club and disrespect its values and history as much as he wants. CARD and all the other protesters and unhappy fans have very few resources beyond the freedom to speak up - something that the most intolerant bullies among the Regime supporters would be happy to see taken away from them, hence the intimidation. If Everitt has misled supporters or just blundered, then his reputation may deserve to be knocked down. But not the man himself. (PS: I'm not suggesting you were implying that of course FHB, I just thought that last sentence sounded good).
Whilst not deliberately “hurting” Charlton, the fact he and his cronies had a **** fit when the free drinking privileges were taken away because the club didn’t have a pot to piss in, show that it’s not always a matter of “club first, me second”.
Regardless of who the next owner is, I can guarantee what will follow. The Moderator on Charlton Life (AFKA) is spineless. A very public bullying statement will go out from two fans - Rick Everitt & Ben Hayes - demanding that the new owner works with “sensible fans” who have “experience”. Not all fans, mind, just a self selecting few who are “sensible” and “experienced”. Somewhat ironic given that neither of them to my knowledge has ever held a credible job, but hey ho. It’s going to be all about the Usual Suspects getting first dibs at getting their snouts back in the trough. See if I am wrong.
In another piece of pure guesswork, RE is now claiming that a potential domestic buyer linked to an ex player didn’t have sufficient funds. It is quite incredible that we still have fans who haven’t seen through this bloke for what he is.
