Mata went for a dangerous overhead kick with no control, surely a red card by the Mané rules

the lower half results are very telling again today

palace 2 everton 2 is no help to either. Poor from everton that.

swansea lost a regulation 2-0 v burnely. they are right in the mire.

leicester, west brom and southampton all fold to the big sides.

    but bournemouth smash hudderfield 4-0

They are after the magic 40 points. Do not take anything away from them though.

if this were a couple years ago they could be leicester but one big team has turned up.

imo if leicester hadn't a clear run at it the vardys and mahrez's would have settled and taken 4th or 6th and been happy.

You won't need anywhere near 40 points to stay up this season

Everton should be safe with 35

    maybe so.

with the top 6 all potentially ending on 70+ that removes points from the rest. 38 was safe in 2015/16, last year 35 was safe as hull had 34.

however hull were looking at watford on 40 so.... if everton are giving anyone hope then they might stretch it to 38.

Aim for 40pts and fail, there is still a chance of staying up. Aim for 35pts and fail, you're ****ed!

Liverpool U23s extended their lead at the top of Premier League 2 and earned local bragging rights as they claimed a 4-0 victory over Everton on Saturday evening.

Goals in quick succession from Herbie Kane and Corey Whelan put Neil Critchley's team in charge midway through the first half at Prenton Park.

Rhian Brewster then added to the hosts' tally early in the second period as he produced a marvellous volley and his replacement Yan Dhanda wrapped the points up with a memorable solo goal.

In an open start to the game, the Reds and Blues took it in turns to carve out good chances.

Wilson was unfortunate not to get more purchase on a shot after being fed by Danny Ings inside the box before the Welshman sent a finish from a clipped ball over the top narrowly wide.

As for the visitors, they would have been aggrieved not to make more of an opportunity to break that ended in Liam Walsh overhitting a cross, while Nikola Vlasic forced Kamil Grabara into a smart save shortly after.

Thankfully for Liverpool, they found their finishing touch before their opponents, and made it count by notching two goals in just three minutes just past the half-hour mark.

The first came when Wilson brilliantly tempted three defenders toward him in the Everton box before teeing up Kane for a powerful close-range finish.

And the U23s captain was at it again straight after the restart, sending a corner onto the head of Whelan, who made no mistake in nodding in.

The No.11 might have had a goal of his own before half-time but saw a deflected attempt set up by Ovie Ejaria dribble agonisingly wide of the post.

The break in play offered Everton a chance to recover from that quickfire double blow, but they were under the cosh again when play resumed.

And the difficulty of trying to subdue to their rivals' potent frontline was underlined in the 53rd minute as Brewster sumptuously volleyed home Kane's cross-field pass to make it three.

The young striker was taken off shortly after, with Dhanda taking his place, but any Evertonians who viewed that move as the Reds taking their foot off the pedal were soon provided with an emphatic response.

Dhanda showed just why he has been deemed worthy of a step up to U23s football this season, picking up the ball up in a deep position and breezing through the Everton defence before cracking a finish into the far corner.

Liverpool: Grabara, Flanagan, Juanma (Johnston, 89), Jones, Whelan, Ejaria, Wilson (Adekanye, 81), Virtue, Kane, Brewster (Dhanda, 67), Ings.

    Unused subs: Firth, Masterson.

Not seen the utd one but you dont have to connect nowadays in order to receive the red. There have been a number of overhead kick yellows and reds.
Not getting into the mane thing again that ruled my life for too long <laugh>

Now that was the right decision, shot cleared off line, then onto hand, no wham player in reach and ball to hand woo hoo.

Whilst they been dominated how wham arent back in this is a mystery

thats the thing about watford. For all their pretty play and they looked so good, they still managed to always concede these guilt edge chances. Kouyate missed 2 sitters and lanzini was unlucky not to score.

Lets also not forget about Gomes superb double save from arnautovic. Watford had all of the play even at their goal but in terms of clear cut chances, west ham had the far better chances in my book.

i highly rate silva, i reckon he'd do well with you boys. The next poch type manager. High pressing, good attractive football and players that will run through brick walls for him. Their defenders are just not that good though. Britos, Kabasele and Mariappa just aren't that great as individuals and its even harder for them as silva is pretty expansive as a team

maybe he thought prodl and kaboul would have been enough? i like the look of kiko fermenia who looks decent. We'll see how he does long term and even though their defence looks ropey, the teams looking good and they are pretty high in the table for a side that were a candidate for relegation (and unfortunate not to be higher)
