Apparently he went to his club to watch the game, but it turned into a 'rugby fest' instead. There were then lots of accumulator bets that somehow took up all his time. This was before he began cooking the roast dinner, right before he had to prepare a birthday party for his son.

He didn't go into hiding because his team got spanked by the Gooners.
