There are three ways things can go when a player is made to stay. 1. They get on with it, play as well as they can. This usually comes with some kind of promise; Silverware, future signings, sold at a future date. 2. Disastrously, player virtually gives up, plays badly, fakes injuries etc 3. Lacklustre performances. Whilst not playing badly they don't give it all they've got. Most of the time the player is playing for time ie their contract is running down or knowledge that the buying club will be back and the selling club will be tempted by the money. From what I've seen its more of a 3. Hardly seems to be Soton's stand out defender
i think he looks unfit to me. he just doesn't look the same player he was. over weight mostly. BUT.... it seems that pelligrini is saying something about owners deciding it etc. Not sure if he's trying to push the player out, or cosy up to fans or what.... surely on the week before the game v the club the issue occurred you would brush and questions away as the only backsplash form commenting is on your own player and club. all its done is create a distraction around vvd that LFC don't have. hardly ideal for southampton bus parking.
If cheslea sell luiz to utd there will be absolutely hell to pay with chelsea fans. I would be furious anyway. But in the end luiz won't improve utd at the back will he?
Klopp on Van Dijk: "You really expect an answer? What happened in the summer? I have nothing to say about that." press conference pre game 1pm.
one of my fave players of all time but honestly, the guy can be a liability. This year he's been clowning around a bit (well actually i think he's not fully fit) and he's been that way for a while. He's not getting any younger and we have christensen to fill the void as well as Rudiger as backup (and zouma if he has a chance but tbh he's not good enough in my book). He's getting on a bit now at 30 and if we can rape man u for all their worth it wouldn't be the worse sell (like matic imo). Would be more than happy for him to stay though and chuck cahill out the side and be our left centre back. The other thing is, united defence is pretty solid, why would they want Luiz? also Jose got rid of him when he came to chelsea so not sure how true this is
you go right ahead and ensure you are in 3rd or 4th rather than 2nd or 1st I reckon however it is prob paper mischeif making OR luiz agent starting the process of getting his name out as available.
Don't get me wrong, he was a key component of the defence last year but this year hes either not fully fit/he's lost a yard or two (he always seems to keep passing people on) and he's lost his discipline a bit. Also i worry when he's up against a pacey striker or a strong striker. If i'm thinking that, then you know he's not convincing me like last year. Would prefer him in cahills position or to heal up properly first but sometimes you have to do the correct business thing to grow (seeing roman isn't looking like bankrolling us to the manchesters degree). Plus as i said we have plenty of cover.
£70m for Van Dijk still? He hasn't played much, Southampton aren't doing great, Holland aren't in the world cup. I didn't want him for that much in the summer, but he surely can't be worth much more than £30-40m
#nailedon we pay less than £70m. Remember that price included a "fine" because of the tapping up leaks, which no longer applies.
I agree with Jaffa. we should be getting 2 or 3 quality centre halves for that amount of dosh. VVD = too expensive!
tbh in his current condition I wouldn't pay it. I think they should take 40 and we work on him for 3nonths to get him for. tbh I think their manager put his foot in it and there's nothing in the thing.
