If any of you get an email that appears to come from someone you know with an attached PDF file that is secured, don't open it; report as a scam. If you suspect anything have a look at your Deleted folder and recover deleted emails. If anyone has been using your email account you will see loads of emails that have been received into your email account without you knowing. The ****ers will try to get your bank(s) to transfer funds urgently. I have had 2 banks contact me by phone about emails they have received (seemingly) from me, to transfer money. One of them I asked to send me a copy of the email which they did but I didn't receive it. I subsequently spoke to the bank and they had already received a reply (seemingly) from me confirming the request. I tracked the emails in my Deleted folder by recovering deleted emails. They obviously have a way of automatically emailing all contacts and hiding the emails from the account because there were loads of them all dated today. Bastards

Oh and quickly change your password

Sorry to hear that Ron. Have to say that I don't do online banking, I don't buy online and I don't even open any email I don't recognise the origin of. My son calls me a dinosaur. He has had his bank account attacked several times. I call him the unwise one who needs to learn that modern isn't always best. I am happy to remain a dinosaur.

The trouble is Greeny, you will recognise the sender because the ****ers have hacked into the sender's account and you could think it's an email from someone you expect to receive emails from. Also they can email banks with requests and have probably got enough info to verify that the email has come from you (don't need on line banking). If your bank isn't with it enough to alert you by phone (and you have to verify it is actually the bank) you could find that the first you are aware is when money goes missing. The problem is they email the bank from your email account, and only they see the replies and they can have an email dialogue with the bank (without you knowing) so, to the bank, it could seem genuine. You will not see any of these emails in your sent folder or in your in file. You may even find that several genuine emails intended for you, you don't even see. This is because they have set up rules to file the incoming emails into the delete folder and then delete them from there. The only way to find out what has gone on is to recover deleted emails.

Even if you change your email password so they can't continue to log in as you, you will need to look in your Deleted folder to see incoming mails and then change the rules for genuine emails so they stay in your inbox for as long as you want them to. It's a real pain and a bit worrying.

If you see a message come up which says "As you are about to view sensitive information you need to re-enter your email password" or something similar I suggest you log out and try it from another computer. You will probably find that the message doesn't come up. Do a full system scan

When I say I don't do online banking Ron what I mean is that there is no mention anywhere on my computer which bank I use. Best of luck them hacking me because they won't find out from the machinery anything worth knowing.

Very wise. As long as there isn't an email somewhere with your bank's name they won't know who to email. But they can email from your account all of your contacts (who will think the email is from you) and use the secured PDF file to hack their email accounts. You sound safe greeny but your contacts might not be if your email is hacked
