This week I have been mostly eating these please log in to view this image Dutch salty licorice balls to be precise. At first I thought they would be the soft and chewy ones they do in Tiger but after crunching down on one and nearly losing a molar I discovered they are hard candies. Initial salty taste is quite rank but gives way to a hard licorice sweet and after a while releases a dose of salt. It's a taste sensation but I can only manage one or two a day as hard candies set my teeth on edge. Alas no more sherbet lemons for this sweet-toothed citizen.
I had my first taste of salty licorice when I was in that there Amsterdam last month, bought a whole bag and ended up chucking them in the bin. Tasted like Mugabe's tears
There is the odd sensation of licking piss off a stinging nettle at first but it soon gives way to a very nice licorice taste then Hello! along comes the salty center. Weirdly moreish. Which is also the pseudonym I sign in visitor guest books. Have you had licorice toffees?
I love most licorice/toffee but recently discovered that licorice is a major contributor to high blood pressure so I'm avoiding it sadly.
Also acts as a laxative so I keep my current salty ball habit down to a couple a day. Have to mention Black Jacks at this juncture which are the mutts nuts as far as chewy sweets are concerned but sadly they have fallen victim to the PC brigade in much the same way as Robertson's Marmalade New wrapper please log in to view this image Old wrapper please log in to view this image
These are my favourites, my sister in law keeps sending me bags of them: https://www.treasureislandsweets.co.uk/lions-and-maynards/lions-liquorice-gums.html
You make me want to remove my own eyeballs. Your temerity to even exist is mindboggling. I prefer Fruit Salads.
This thread is not very good. Dev licking salty balls in Amsterdam followed by revulsion was a thinly veiled doubles entendres bait.
