These are the minutes to last nights meeting. https://www.castrust.org/2017/11/robinson-best-outcome-of-the-season-is-to-make-you-proud-again/
Really enjoyed that to be honest. It would be nice to hold out in January for Konsa to see if we get promoted, but I think KR is resigned to the fact that 1) dooche will sell if an offer arrives 2) Konsa probably fancies the move. Has the reported £3.5mil offer this summer ever been proven? I’d have thought KR would have at least mentioned it by now if it were.
"The Board have told me I need two strikers"??? Shurely shome mishtake? He says also that what happens in January depends on what happens with Konsa. In other words sell Konsa for £5m and get in a loanee or two. Didn't he say we'd have "a right go" in January? Also that if we were in a promotion push Roland would loosen the purse strings in January? Robinson seems to see the bright side of every situation, even Roland's skinflint attitude, maybe that's what's holding things together. He's certainly shown loyalty towards the regime, and deserves that loyalty to be returned, but we all know Roland, so it probably won't be.
One gripe I had with it was Aneke being the best player in the league. Could be that KR is hoping to be reunited with him, rather than believing that statement.
JJ: "Your support has been overwhelming. We knew that the protests were never directed at us on the pitch. I hope we can do something this year to reward you for the not so good years” Apologists take note.
RD best be selling after reading that. he's worth almost a billion and robbing £3.5m - £5m out of us. what a tight cnut.
KR: (on Ezri Konsa) "My gut feeling is that he will go in January. If I was him I’d be looking to go in January but we should look for £5m minimum. Maybe we could try for a loan back but the player has to want that (as Dele Alli did at MK)" Arsenal and Everton take note.
KR seems confident he can get the job done without Konsa. He's the gaffer, we will have to hope he is right.
Try as I do to warm to Karl Robinson, he does let himself down when he makes comments such as those about Konsa and the £5m. He then went further in the Stupidity Stakes by linking the purchase of two strikers in January with the sale of Konsa ...”its all part of the jigsaw”. Err...no it isn’t. We have an owner who is reputed to be worth 860m Euros. A manager worth his salt would be going to Duchatelet in January with an ambitious list of demands, not waving a white flag and already publicly hawking the sale of your star defender. Going back to the early 2000s, can anyone imagine Alan Curbishley attending a fan’s meeting, and saying “we will be very lucky to hang on to Richard Rufus in January”?
The thing is Robinson won't be given a choice. If we get the right offer he will be off. What Robinson has to do is target a replacement. I feel that we will need two players, one in midfield and one in central defence.
We've got Bauer, Pearce and Sarr, who are all good enough at this level. With Konsa you're talking about a player who not only is different class at CB, but is excellent in two other positions. As for our January dealings depending on what happens with Konsa, didn't we hear something similar about the Lookman money?
£5m for Konsa in the current over-heated market for young English talent is an insult. Quoting figures in public is plain stupid. It all comes back to ambition (or lack of) and what Duchatelet is really at Charlton for - to flatter Meire and pay for her mistakes by flogging the Academy assets. Ultimately it is just not acceptable or sustainable which is why - despite the upturn on the pitch - the fans need to keep the pressure up to force him out. We need strikers in January - Magennis looked shot even for N.Ireland at the weekend.
