    Ha Ha, so true though.
Lately, I have noticed a lot of people mocking Brexit and how the news is reported.

Yes I have, and regardless of whether you'd like to live there or not the point is that you can buy a house up north for £40k or less. You said you couldn't and that those days have gone. Well the quick answer is yes that you can. I've no intention of being confrontational, it's just a statement of fact. What's the problem with living in Grimsby anyway?

Speaking of Grimsby, one of my great regrets in life is not being at the game where Eric Sabin (who) got the last minute winner. Looked like absolute chaos in the stands and on the pitch.

Some parts of northern France have to be worse than any place I can think of in the UK

Pro and cons wherever you go as said by Ellers ... you take yourself wherever you go

Main factors for me is honestly the weather mixed with people

Ireland for me best people and I respect my partner who has travelled around the globe 3 times. NZ for her but second? ... Corsica where we nip to regularly... those who haven’t been try it plus they hate the French

It’s the weather that makes people carry a rucksack of doom around. Combine that with a cultural routine and debt I believe you are getting close to the root

Off home today to the Sun may even get 19 out of the micro climate I have found ... once you find that lift in the spirit preserve it I say

Can be anywhere but weather plays it part

Hints of post Brexit immigration strategy emerging, if the current alleged government survives that long.

David Davis talking to European bankers has said mobility of skilled financial people across Europe will be encouraged not restricted (though why this is important when most investment decisions are taken by electronic algorithms is beyond me). Theresa May doubles the number of visas for non EU technology specialists. OK only an extra 1,000, but the principle of ‘we would rather import the best that other countries have than grow our own because it’s cheaper’ is pretty clear. And that extra thousand relatively well paid people and their families will be a boost to the property market, and god forbid we let house prices fall......

Of course I have no problem with immigration, but I do have a problem with people who change the message to suit the audience, especially if they happen to be the government.

Goldman Sachs has just leased a building under construction in Frankfurt for 1000 staff. They say:
“This expanded office space will allow us to grow our operations in Germany to continue serving our clients, as well as provide us with the space to execute on our Brexit contingency plan as needed,” They are expanding their presence in all 27 EU countries:
Richard Gnodde, chief executive of its international arm, has previously said the bank’s plans include hiring extra staff in the remaining 27 EU nations to cope with the extra business which will be channelled through Europe instead of London.
The building under construction in London is to replace the 3 existing offices they have here, not to expand. Of course it was commissioned way before the referendum. They may well be regretting that decision now, but they don’t have to occupy it, they can let it out (if there is anyone left prepared to rent...)

Twisted enough for you? Sorry for the use of actual quotes from the actual company.

Bloomberg has significant investments in London, he’s hardly going to talk it down. But I hope he’s right. None of these financial institutions wants to leave, the British voter has landed them with an potentially expensive pain in the arse, and the British Government has added to the uncertainty. Boo hoo, I really have no sympathy for them.

Believe whatever supports your existing prejudice. I do, it saves time, and the use of thought.

On a tangential but related point I am unsure why all these institutions need to be co-located in a few cities in these days of ultra connectivity and trading in the virtual, non geographical, space, with decisions made by electronic algorithms.

    <laugh> always one.
I like your twisted words of 'if there is anyone left prepared to rent'. I am sure there will be plenty of people using the office.
Here is a quote from the man himself:
Asked on BBC Radio 4's Today programme if he would have gone ahead with the major development had be known about the Brexit decision, Mr Bloomberg said: "There's just no question in my mind ... [we] absolutely would have because London is always going to be the financial centre of Europe for the foreseeable future."
So that puts your theory to bed.
I am sure all these companies are running to put their money into Latvia Romania Bulgaria, Greece, Spain, Italy instead of London.
With all due respect Sb I will always listen to people that know and are doing it rather than listening to someone like you on a forum. :emoticon-0148-yes:

Why do you invite comment then? I said Bloomberg has powerful motives to big up London and I hope he is right. He didn’t foresee the 2008 financial meltdown so let’s see how good his ‘foreseeable future’ guesses are. You conveniently ignore the direct quotes and real actions of Goldman Sachs who you used to back up your wishful thinking.

Some of us are accused of ‘doom and gloom’ which is probably fair, but the antidote isn’t head in the sand ‘it’ll all be ok because we are British’. A slow drift in a downward arc with a couple of sharp jolts along the way is probable, but still time to turn it round.

I’ll say it again, believe what you want, we’re not on here to change minds. At least I’m not.

I suspect they will soon start working on the numbers of staff they have, wherever they sit. Financial services is a prime target for automation. I was thinking about my own role, which is largely slow motion crisis management resulting from poor decisions which looked good at the time years ago (I’m not complaining, I eat and drink well and enjoy myself). Good algorithms at a couple of points would significantly reduce the mistakes made by emotional humans arguing with each other and make me redundant. Bring it on!

Goldmann is one of our clients as are all the big players. I can confirm looking on my systems that their spend on our services which as a snapshot includes all external and internal marketing services has been very big. I cannot see exact artworks as like most of them they have been locked but the clues are there.

I can confirm however that accounts I touch have all prepared for any and all outcomes

Even my lot who has massive power within all sectors have made provision and recruiting in the EU has been ongoing and accelerating this year. Example: the entire Heineken account has moved to Amerstdam

Advent international who recently acquired us from DHL have chosen to use the Euro as their base currency over the pound . Aldgate Towers my HQ has reduced its staffing levels by 67% in a year

Boring stuff I know but on here when I read our little concerns from joe public it certainly effects my viewpoint. The faith we show in what we are told is a long way away from the reality of what big business is doing .

The UK government and the EU Brexit talks is nothing but a sideshow

Absolutely right a human has to look at the important stuff ... lifestyle. Too many of us ignore the fact that automated services are almost irreversible... no need for humans

The time we are all given is our currency and the only thing that matters. Dreams of the UK suddenly becoming a powerful self sufficient nation after 2019 with our current political mess look doubtful

You see, you cannot help yourself our heads aren't 'in the sand' I have never said ‘it’ll all be ok because we are British’. I just believe our future should be in our hands and our laws governed by us and not some guy in Brussels who has never been to this country.
How many of you would trust putting your money in a Latvian/Bulgarian/Greek/Romanian Bank?.....:emoticon-0129-call: That's why the financial centre will be in London because it is geared up for it, it is trusted. It's the best. That is why before Brexit everyone was based in London. All this talk of Frankfurt and Paris will disappear with the rest of the fear campaign. You best take another look at your 'algorithms' and speed up the slow motion. :emoticon-0148-yes:

It’s great that our future is in our hands no one can honestly deny that. As long as we as a nation know to get our head out of our hands if it goes tits up. My worry is that culturally that will be a big ask because of the split in opinion and the historical UK blame culture embedded within. Nothing would please me more that we unite as a new nation after this all but the task is massive
