Steve Lansdown receives CBE at Buckingham Palace
    Tuesday, November 14th 2017

Steve Lansdown receives his CBE at Buckingham Palace for services to business and the community of Bristol.

In June it was announced that the founder of Bristol Sport would be honoured, along with Bristol City FC club president Marina Dolman, who was made an MBE for services to football.

Lansdown was joined at the Palace by wife Maggie, son Jon and daughter Amy, as his family witnessed her majesty the Queen present the award.

Lansdown was the co-founder of UK financial services firm Hargreaves Lansdown, which began trading from a bedroom in 1981. The company has grown to become one of the country's largest financial services firms, it is based on the Harbourside and a constituent of the FTSE100.

He began his association with Bristol City in 1996, joining the Board of Directors and became chairman in October 2002, taking over from John Laycock.

City have won three promotions and lifted the Football League Trophy twice in his time with the club.

Through Bristol Sport, Lansdown has extended his backing to Bristol Rugby in 2008/09 and Bristol Flyers in 2014, along with motorsport and badminton.

Bristol Rugby secured promotion to the Premiership in 2016, while Flyers have reached the play-offs in two of the last three years.

However, the most notable change has come in the last few years as Lansdown invested in the £45m transformation of Ashton Gate to become a state-of-the-art, 27,000-seater stadium that Bristol can be proud of.

You were the one who always encouraged him to do the things that you eventually didn't agree with??
