    Why do we need the R of I, a foreign country, to pull it off rather han another foreign one?

    Especially one that was neutral in WW2, refused to extradite IRA bombers and sided with Argentina during the Falklands crisis - hardly a country that roots for us

    I happen to have watched an England game in Denmark and none of their citizens cheered the opposition.

    I happen to have watched an England game in Sweden as well and they didn't cheer the opposition either. Though it was England v Scotland and five minutes before kick-off a dozen Jocks rolled up fully kitted out in kilts and ginger wigs. They did cheer the opposition.
