Re-sign Pelle!!! Seriously, TSS, is the outcome you are seeing unfolding before your eyes due to a lack of real striking talent in the Italian game right now. It could take 8 years for another world class striker to emerge in the Italian game, who is in the same class as Riva from 1970, Bettega from 82. Is the talent there even? Spain went through a long barren period of over 40 years, before finding success again. With Germany the turnaround is much quicker. France seems to be producing a conveyor belt of talent.

Looks like I’ll have no plan B at the World Cup.

Yeah, I agree with your sentiment. I'd also re-sign Pelle for a season. But he's having far too good a time in China.

It's a rare World/Euro Cup when we don't have at least one team, more likely two, to follow.

Steven Davis and Manolo Gabbiadini both out with no goals scored. Can Ireland get through tomorrow with a Shane Long winner or will the Saints jinx continue?

Join me and support Mexico!! Just for the fun of it!!! From an objective point of view this has been coming for a while. It just seems that Italy did not move on from their abject performances in Brazil four years ago. I really do feel it needs a root and branch overhaul from the youth ranks upwards as the Italian game seems rooted in deep conservatism tactically and in innovation. Is there need for a modern day Arrigo Sacchi who revolutionised the way AC Milan played back in the late 80s and early 90s?

They are not!! In Kane England have a world class striker, while in Stones and Sterling, we have seen vast improvements in their play this season. Raheem is even aware of players around him as he is lookng up to lay the ball off. Is it the Guardiola effect?

Italy need ......... Simeone!!! Or someone of that ilk!! Their present manager, who has probably tendered his resignation by now, was of the old school.

So I have watched England v Brazil 0-0, Switzerland v N Ireland 0-0 and Italy v Sweden 0-0. These games have become so tight as the stakes are so high.

Sweden played like this against Netherlands but conceded early. You feel a lot of the teams are just going to sit there and only the best will break them down.

Enzo Bearzot or Marcello Lippi is what is needed.

Edit: Oh and Paolo Rossi or Francesco Totti
    Edit 2: and Pirlo

Enzo Bearzot!! The name rings a bell. Was he the trainer of AC in the late 80s and not Arrigo Sacchi?
