Dortmund want a holding midfielder for next season, and Can has previously said that that is his preferred position. Furthermore, Can’s agent, Reza Fazeli, represents Dortmund coach Peter Bosz as well as midfielders Mahmoud Dahoud and Nuri Sahin. (Paul Joyce)

Can’s present deal expires at the end of the season, and there has been little signal of a resolution, with the player keen for a release clause to be inserted into any new Anfield deal. (Paul Joyce)

Our wages are 69% of revenue - which is higher than all of our rivals. The squad is riddled with high earners / poor return.

I'm not sure that 70% of revenue (ahem real revenue now) is that bad.

% terms is all well and good but you are comparing CL team revenue to our eruopa europe revenue last year https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jun/01/premier-league-finances-club-by-club

Eg Arsenal: turnover of 354 with wages of 195

we are 302 with wages of 208.. which includes paying of rogers.

or cheslea who are better compariosn at 335 mil trunover and wages of 224mil

I think we need to focus on the bottom line. do we get return on the wages which at that point were 3rd highest in league (but skews a bit to be so due to 10 mil in rogers pocket)

IMO the return isn't great as the club accepts poor performances.

About time we get rid of those who are not performing. Daniel Sturridge, Lovern must not be spared.

All the more reason not to pander to excessive wage demands, imo.

I believe Henderson and Sturridge are two of our highest earners. Purely in terms of minutes they both play per season due to injuries its not worth keeping either (unless they lower their wages). Not to mention their lack of contribution on the pitch.
Its a constant problem we've had for years, rewarding average players with big long term contracts. Means we get stuck with a high wage bill and players we can't get rid of.

    not really henderson.

my info is henderson signed up on 100k and is still on that til 2020.

    http://www.totalsportek.com/money/liverpool-player-salaries/

coutinho, is 180k i heard. Lovren got 100k. Sturrdige i THOUGHT was on 150k. Milner i thought was 160k but he could be on a base 120k per website.

There is a lot of variety in wages but we have to also see that while we pay... A LOT... the clubs we are supposedly chasing pay 2x at least

I think here is something hugely dodgy at city. I think the wages are seriously under reported and the tax man should be all over it AND i think the revenue is bogus too. I would absolutely love revenue to do that club over rangers style.

oh and before i forget IMO LFC have already made the mistake on Origi. his contract length is too short now and sending him on lan this season means he is going to walk cheaply or could even just demand another loan next seaosn and go on a free. IMO theres a case for having sold him this summer.

Wages per player is a poor comparison. We got Milner on a free so he should be on higher wages as his signing on fee was probably not that big, whereas we bought Lovren and pay him a decent wage as well.

    yeah.

how do you make an objective rating of value?

    minutes played?
    games won?
    etc etc

I think it'd be relatively complex to objectively rate value from a weekly wage when you can prob look and weigh it subjectively and just average out the opinions.

I think its fair to say that milner might have cost a bit in wages but taking pens and helping us to 4th form LB was a decent effort or that 180k to coutinho this year is prob poor playing value thus far but his contract secures us 130mil in fees so its long term sound. Or that 120k to slaah thus far is brilliant value as is 90k to mane or 120k to firmino

Then onthe other hand 150k to sturridge is awful, did lovren merit 100k, doubt it...

I do not really care how much they get if they can justify it, if they are overpaid and not performing it's going to be harder to sell them.

I thought the opposite; that players on a free tend to receive a higher signing on fee. Wasn't Cole rumoured to have got 5mill or there abouts which was paid out over the entirety of his contract deal? Plus agent fees amounting to several million are also included.

I look at players as a total (transfer + any additional fees + additional bonuses + wages) per year / game and see who's justifying it. Hard to do that for us fans as the money isn't remotely relevant to us, but compare players to players and when Sturridge works out far higher than say Firmino, you have to ask why? We don't get value from keeping him.

Simple. Don't look at weekly figures. Look at them as a full package when signed.

    £20m transfer fee + £1m signing on fee + £2m agent fee + £100k pw over 5yrs = £49m / 5yrs / 52wks = £188,461.53 per week with a decreasing 5yr asset on the books.

    Its not football, its business!
