I'm doing alright, own house, own bolt hole in Cornwall,an excellent pension, fast classy car, good health, bottle of malt, stocked up on stella, fair bit in the bank and savings, don't owe anybody anything, a bloody lovely wife and family, in my mind it can't get any better.

To quote my main man Fiddy... Get rich or die trying.

It’s funny how life goes. A few years ago I came so so close to migrating to either Canada or Oz with the latter reaching the final stages then a lot of sad personal things happened which made me stay. Now I have my nice car & a great business. Hoping next year to buy a pub/hotel in Shepton mallet.

I wouldn’t say life is all about money but it plays its part. I think like every single human we want to be remembered when we die. I want to leave something behind for my family, hopefully that will be a little successful empire which they can build upon. What we leave behind is just as important as what we have when we’re alive. Keep god in your heart and everything will be fine in the end..

Money gives you choice, however it don’t give you love,it don’t give you happiness,it don’t give you health. All these things are more important and are free.

I am planning to retire in 9 years. I’ll be 60. My mortgage will be finished in 7 years.
I would like a flat in Benalmedina but I will always keep my houses here (I have 3 - plus a family investment in Barry Island).
In the words of Wings all I want is a pint a day (or 4)

In my life I have swung from being well off and very skint - at one time not too long ago I thought I would lose my house.
I just want some stability really.

I really really am glad I am my generation - the young people have it hard. Yes their attitude stinks (generalisation) and they are often their own worst enemy but I wouldn’t swop places with them.

Another bit of class from banksy who wont discuss anything - especially with someone who's made him look like a small child on here recently.

The guy who knows all the rules about football because he's been playing it since he was 6 and was probably qualified as a ref before he was 7.....<laugh>

I don't care whose board it is, I'll discuss anything with anybody on here - so you **** off. <ok>

Wouldn't argue with any of that - in fact said as much in the OP. <ok>

Although it seems to have partially deviated into a "have and have not" issue by a disruptive element on here, I'll try to get the thread back on track.

The thread was really about people's attitudes toward their financial assets (however large or small). Whether they could get more out of life by enjoying them whilst they can rather than an obsessive saving syndrome for that rainy day I highlighted in the OP.

JGF2 took it off course initially talking more about his investments rather than what he was going to do with it and admittedly I followed suit. The point was as RR has just said, past savings/money/investments offer choice to those who have worked for them - the question was what are other's opinions about their own circumstances and intentions?

For me my assets are well and truly tied up in properties private, and business,I could go of into the sunset never to return.

However I'm not sure i can give up my day to day living just yet,However I'm sure i will when the time it right.

Regards Sparky's comments, each individual has to make the decision which is right for them, every individual will have different needs in their lives.

made just up the road from the Edradour, wonderful site , typically "ALL WHITE PAINTED BUILDINGS"on west side of A9 SURROUNDED by peaks and at the top end, N of the Drumocter pass, a 6 mile dual carriageway.... must have passed it 60 plus times 8 this year.. never bothered to stop1
Laphroaig one of the island distilleries, most distilleries now do a supermarket retail brand as well as specials, amongst the island group are some very good only available locally... one of my associates 2 Christmases ago accepted a challenge to guess any whiskey presented to him ..... there were 17 and 2 lots were of the same one .. unlucky for some he got 13 correct, 9 of 11 or 12 were island got 2 or 3 wrong. the Tesco cheapest on the shelf he didn't even sip! but handed it back saying this needs to go down the loo!
I think 1 was a jura that cost £80 odd quid ... he was crafty ... after a pause said not sure about this one, give me some more! .....
ps I don't drink whisky, except maybe just 2mm in bottom of a glass to be sociable

<laugh><laugh>.....face it banksy, you're ****e at the forum banter stuff - in fact a bit of a ****e poster all round even on discussion threads. A man often sees what he wants to see, and I appreciate it must be difficult for you with your head so far up your own backside.

I'll leave it for your peers over here to judge the history and in the meantime will someone over here explain to him the "date" thing please? Wizey - you got it straight away, do us a favour pal. <doh>

Why do I sense a few more exclamation marks are due!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....<laugh>

You're really good at forum banter though aren't you, you got ripped to shreds.

Spending a whole thread showing off about how much money you have. You must have a lack of a self esteem mate as you always seem to refer to "letting others judge" why would I give a **** about what others think? and to spend a thread going on about your money, how vulgar.

Why don't you and JGF dicuss this over a DM thread and then it wouldn't have to bore everybody else to tears.

Regards the date, I just don't fancy you pal, so let it go eh!

There's that exclamation mark again. Are you for real? You're the only one mentioning the "date" and that's probably because you didn't understand it at the time.....<laugh>

Another thing is It can only bore you if you read it - you had a choice pal - end of lesson.

As for the rest of your rubbish, neither I nor JGF2 have mentioned outright wealth, just how we choose to invest what we have. Still as you seem to find that sort of thing "vulgar", here's something for you to get steamed up about.

The reason I didn't post anything all day yesterday was that I was out all day. I had to pick up a one way rental car from Enterprise that morning and drive 150 miles to collect my new X5 40D Sport. Carbon Black with Ivorywhite/Black dakota leather and all the knobs and whistle extras I'd specified. In particular the Head Up Dispaly is brilliant - had it on the last car and wouldn't do with out it. Specked out at a tad over £66K, although I didn't pay quite that much, with a few freebees thrown in like GardX body treatment inside and out, GAP insurance and warranty extension. The reason for using and travelling to this dealer is that I'd bought my previous two BMW's from them and they've been a pleasure to deal with in the past.

I paid cash for the vehicle - £21K from the sale of my 5 series touring, £16K each from my and my wife's own investment ISA's, just over £9K annual growth drawdown from the frozen investment ISA I mentioned in an earlier post, and the rest was a few thousand I happened to have lying around in the house. Sent the money across online to them on Monday and arranged to pick it up on Wednesday.

Spent a couple of hours doing the paperwork and learning how to fly it, dropped off the rental car, got my 200 quid damage deposit put back on my card and set off for home. It was gone 2pm by then so stopped a few miles out of town in a lovely pub and had a smashing steak and ale pie and a pint of lemonade (or simlar <laugh>).

Hit the M4 and paid my £6.70 to get back into Wales (well worth it BTW), but then hit the bloody rain. It pissed down all the way back and by the time I got home it was well after dark and my shiny new monster was covered in road ****. Never mind, I parked up in my drive next to my wife's C class Mercedes and went in for the night. Got up this morning , and yes, it was still there, I hadn't dreamt it. Going outside shortly to hose it down and buff it back up to how it left the showroom yesterday.

That close family member I mentioned in the OP who gets her enjoyment from seeing her money/investements grow for the future is all very well and the best of luck to her - I got mine yesterday and again looking out of the window this morning.

    How's that for "vulgar" banksy?

Should of spoken to me, my brother works in sales for BMW and I could of got you a discount.

Actually no I wouldn’t as I’m a tight bastard who uses up discounts myself.

BTW my wife took over my C Class where she has had BMW’s for the past 10 years,as have I. So tell your wife I much prefer her car to yours please <ok>

Actually got a discount ROD, but probably not as much as your brother would have got....<laugh>

I've had BMW's for the past 25 years and wouldn't change the marque for anything. This is the first diesel I've had - all the others have been petrol, but this 6 cylinder twin turbo lump in the X5 is the best in the world and far superior to the Merc C class my wifes drives.
