Be warned that this kind of thing can bite you on the arse (prescription drugs without having paperwork) in many places. Be wary if travelling to Australia via Dubai, for example.

Sadly, its not positive news. She's been remanded and sent for criminal trial...Her lawyer applied for bail, but the hearing did not go ahead. You do wonder about the role of her ' boyfriend' in this, but perhaps, in the circumstances, it is best not to comment any further.

The middle one first. She's more than a bit naive so would believe me when I said it's in that hole by accident and most of all she won't mind that I married already.....

    My take on this:
Why would you want a married man as a boyfriend living miles away that you only see 4 times a year.
If I could only see MsOver18 four times a year we would split.
Her family should have been telling her to wake up and smell the coffee or maybe they did who knows.
All very sad and desperation kicks in by paying £10,000 to conmen.
I don't know enough of the case to fully judge her but if I was her dad I would have sat her down to explain the risks of carrying the tablets/ drugs
Hope she gets back okay and can put this to bed and move on <cheers>

Not to mention possession of tramadol without a prescription is an offence in this country, as s giving it or selling it,to anyone else. So whoever supplied her with the tablets has committed an offence in this country as did she in accepting them. Her "boyfriend" knew they were illegal in his country so why did he ask her to bring him some?
The problem is this is a country where regular headlines are "is spared jail" or "avoids jail" and some people think actions have no consequences. This inevitably ends in trouble when they think other countries act in the same way and don't uphold their rules and regulations.

That is a fair point about her obtaining them without prescription. Having been to Egypt over 250 times in the last 30 years, and was only through Cairo airport some months ago, I have never been stopped or searched on entry. This smells like a tip off, and I wouldn't rule this boyfriend out.

I'm a tad ignorant on this case. Did she say that someone else put the tablets into her suitcase?
What's the first question you are asked when you go through security: "Did you pack your own suitcase?" followed by "Has anyone given you anything to put in your bag?"
She's a very silly girl, whose only crime might be stupidity.

I recall the first time I went to the states and whilst waiting to check-in some yank asked me if I would take some items for him because his bag would be too heavy. I told him to '£uck off'..I can still recall the look on his face.

She has never stated someone else put the tablets in her suitcase. Yes, she is stupid in a lot of ways, taking drugs there you are not allowed to have without thinking why this so-called boyfriend was asking her to take them in. Why couldn't he get them there, which should have set off alsrm bells. The fact you can't get them in this country without a prescription and she had to get someone to break the law in this country to supply her with them doesn't seem to have concerned her either. Some people think they can breeze through life ignoring rules and regulations and that they are immune from any consequences of their actions.

on reflection..I think she falls into the 'stupid' category..Boyfriend probably has a few other silly buggers who act as mule's for him, whilst he flogs the merchandise on the black market and lives off the profits with his wife and kids. if the locals want to use her as an example to stop others, she might be looking at serious prison time.

I'm amazed at how few people have any sympathy for her. I think it's terrifying.

Can everyone be expected to know all the obscure laws of wherever they may visit or pass through? I don't think there's any doubt she's been stupid, but does that mean she doesn't deserve sympathy when she's locked up in a horrible cell in some foreign prison? The way people are talking about her it's as if she's the villain of the piece.

When you come from a civilised country how can you be expected to know that something like carrying painkillers can be such a serious offence elsewhere. People get away with violent assaults every day without going to prison. She's in an Egyptian one FFS.

Ignorance isnt an excuse, she broke the law in this country to get them and took them to a country the it's illegal to have them, Im sorry but she's been stupid, broken the law and will rightly so face punishment

OK lets take all the Egypt bit out of it. How and where do you get almost 300 tabs of Tramadol without a prescription?

Are you not the slightest bit suspicious of someone who travels several times a year to a country, a country where Tramadol is the recreational drug of choice, being caught with several hundred pounds worth of Tramadol?

    Because I am.
