The funny thing is that "some people" on here have since quoted a few of the sites you used, but as serious sources.
It's like an InstaNazi spotting device! <laugh>

I'm not religious so I don't celebrate Christmas. The only reason I buy for the bairn is because I don't want her to be 'that kid' that doesn't get anything for Christmas. I used to only spend £200 on her, but now she's turning 13, I'm dropping it to £100. I'll take her out and let her get what she wants with it.

I always celebrate and go overboard on her birthday, though. That day means a lot to me, that's the day she was born and brought into the world. I've got great memories of that day and feel it's worth celebrating. This year I was going to take her to Iceland to see the Northern Lights, but because it's a special birthday (teenager), I'm taking her to Jamaica for a couple of weeks, instead.

I was cynical as **** about Christmas about 20 years ago, I was a feckless single bloke and lived the life of one. Christmas was about going out on the piss, shopping, going the football and one social escapade after the next. Had become a bit stale to say the least.

I've now got three kids and embrace it, having them has given me Christmas back. I'm not religious and I don't care, it's not about religion for me.
It's about having a couple of weeks off work and enjoying it with your family, spoiling the kids (no doubt too much and part of me still dislikes the excess of that), going for walks/pub meals/drinks/football (still).

Planning what food we'll buy, what beer/wine/spirits/port/whiskey (never Thai, only single malt) I'll be getting in. Which cheeses, which pates.

It's a break. We all deserve one, we can't work every single week of the year and Christmas is the excuse. We'd only do something else so the whole world might as well do it as one at the same time.

Peace on earth and all that. Who gives a **** if you're not religious?

*disclaimer - I know plenty also hate it and with very good reason but that's life I'm afraid. It goes on.*

Bit like that for me too tbh with our festivals and stuff.

Wasn't overly religious, life went on and would be happy to work over eid etc

Then had kids and really reevaluated my life. Have to say marriage and kids really changed me. I didn't give a **** prior tbh.

Even my religious outlook, and I am fairly religious, was a result of my current Mrs (an ex catholic ex atheist) and kids

I've got about 6 pairs now.

And a pair of running skin tighty Nike pants, you can see my little tiddler on a good day.

    :)

Well he made a generalisation that Santa, was a sweaty ****. Yet yesterday we all had a lengthy discussion about the wrongs of racism and cultural differences, yet here we are now quite happy to accept a derogatory comment about our Christian Festival Activities from a poster that seemed to want to shout the loudest about the actions of football supporters.

Maybe it is because Santa is generally white and middle aged he uses that generalisation - because i've never known yet Santa's to be commonly arrested for being ****'s?

    Just saying...

Oh, I thought I must have contradicted myself in my post somewhere!

The only minor thing that bugs me is the present scenario. My family were always generous but not overly outrageous. Still are, it's how I'd prefer it.

Her parents seem to see it as a competition to see how many presents, most of which will never be looked at again once unwrapped, they can foist on our kids.

It's unnecessary and I try to reel it in but usually to **** all avail.

They off set this by buying me a selection of ales. Which is good, I like ale and I take it in good heart!
