For me he would be perfect as a CM in the old 4-4-2 style that all teams played, where a CM has to be competent at both defending and attacking. In the new 4-2-3-1 type formations, you are seen as either a DMC or an AMC, neither of which he excells at. Doing quite well at both, it seems, is not enough for some fans.
