I don't think losing a child is getting away with it. What would be the point of punishing them more. They are in a worse position than if their child had died and they knew it. There isn't a parent in the world that hasn't taken a chance at one time or another. No, I wouldn't have done what they did, but I have been at parties where parents in the same street have taken turns to duck back and look at sleeping children. It happens, people aren't perfect and their lives must be torture. And their children's lives must have been blighted as well. I think people judge them because they are middle class, appear to cope, and admit it....we'd all wish it would go away because we are fed up with it now. Well, for them, it won't ever go away.

Universal basic income. You would get a set amount each month without question irrespective of whether you were working or not. It's being looked into for when machines take over even more jobs. Sounds crazy and not affordable if given to everyone. There is no incentive to get a job except to improve your standard of living. They hope it will make people do more voluntary stuff as they won't be so worried about money. Nice idea but in my experience they will just spend more and still feel hard up. My problem is, I suppose, that I am trying to fit it into today's world and it doesn't go. My mind set has always been to work hard to get what you need and not look for handouts. Maybe I need to think outside the box as it might be necessary in years to come.

A system which like communism ignores human nature. People need incentives....some will work or do good deeds, but that still leaves a lot of people with time on their hands...the devil finds work for idle hands. Work or achievements in other ways give meaning to life....there are many who can lead completely idle lives....found both in the rich community and in the poor, but most people need more than that. Sadly I can see a future where the majority of people have no purpose in life....I don't see that as heaven on Earth. I suppose it is possible that if everyone has a basic wage, many will work to pass the time....and perhaps undercut the machine. Now that would be irony.

Okay....no one watching The Detectorists....how about The Bounty Hunter. A crime romp about drug cartels, stolen archaeological artefacts and dysfunctional families starring Jack Whitehall (plus a slew of others, including the actor who played King Arthur in Merlin as a pair of mad twins....took me 3 episodes to recognise him).

Just because they lost a child doesn't mean they should be immune from punishment for any part they played. They're guilty of neglect at the absolute least and they shouldn't be allowed to still have custody of their other children.

The fact they're middle class means they've got an easy ride in the media imo, if they were from a council estate they would have been crucified by the press.

Utter ****s, they're scum and I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.

It's funny....and if you are worried about spending time catching up....the episodes are quite short. I've often recorded series and then deleted without watching because life is too short....well it is when you are my age. :)

Got both series from first broadcast. Hilarious. Thoroughly recommended. I'm just waiting for everyone in the cast to be available for the third series.

Well they broadcast the first episode last night, and I have just caught up. It’s spine-curlingly hilarious. Heard an interview with Mackenzie Crook, who writes it as well as costars, on Front Row, where he said this is definitely the last series, but it wil “finish on a high”.

Seem to be all the main cast. Had doubts about Mackenzie's wife, but it is the same actress....must have had some work done on her face.
