A game that reaffirmed my belief that we shouldn't be going back in for Zaha. He's fast but he spends too much time throwing himself on the floor and claiming terrible injustice. Too often he can be seen on the floor, arms opened wide, appealing to some higher power to reward him for falling over. His end product is all over the place. He's it an age where should be starting to hit his peak but there's no sign of significant improvement. That suggests that even Mauricio Pochettino would struggle to reach a player who is happy to be a big fish in a small pond. Move along now, please.
Called it back when they played United in the EL final. There is no doubt in my mind that he is Ledley's biological son, conceived at the age of 16 while on a mad one in Dam.
His bringing out of the ball is not Ledley-esque (a lot of sideways passing etc) , but that can be worked on.
I'm waiting for his first goal, I thought he came close a few times yesterday...I cannot wait to see this : please log in to view this image
He currently has good mentors in Toby and Jan to learn from (if the Ajax regime hasn't already taught him to do so) .
What is the Spurcat assessment of Gazzaniga (start with technical - we can get to hair/shaving regimes later ) ??
He was lucky to get away with that challenge in the 2nd minute which could quite easily have been given as a penalty, and he was even more fortunate when Zaha missed the open goal. However, the positives were his handling and distribution throughout, plus he made a couple of outstanding saves, the one in the first half from the header was excellent. Never easy for a keeper to come in at short notice like he did and given he hasn't played much, I thought overall he gave a good account of himself. We know he's a talented keeper, if you remember, he was MOM for Southampton at the Lane the season before last.
Does this mean Vorm will be moving onto pastures new ?? There are hardly enough games per season to share among two decent GKs, let alone three.
We always seem to do better when we get men forward and put balls into the box quickly. Out and out wingers don't thrive for MP. Maybe because few can shoot worth a damn.
Reminded me of something ....... hadn’t realised that Eric D was THAT quick..... He was in a couple of foot chases with Zaha and matched him. Not many do that!
Dier was very good at stopping their breaks. Fantastic pace, great tackles and spot on with his decision making.
