Watch the video that he linked, it's not seeing what we want to see, it's seeing what actually happened, if you take your conspiracy hat off for just a minute and actually watch the evidence you will see that Gomes was the one that cost Spurs the goal simply by not playing to the whistle.

Why didn't the linesman raise his flag?
Because Gomes moved quickly to pick the ball up, at which point he probably assumed that it was irrelevant.

The linesman informed the ref of the handball, so why no free-kick?

Alright since I haven't given my opinion on this incident, I'll tell you how I saw it.

    1. Nani goes down under minimal pressure and appeals for a penalty - a booking, especially when it's in the area.
    2. Nani grabs the ball as Gomes looks to pick the ball up and play advantage - again, that's a booking.
    3. The ref with his hands behind his back makes no signal whatsoever - on balance of both 1 and 2 he needs to stop the game at very least to book Nani.
    4. Gomes mistakenly assumes a freekick has been given - he was wrong to assume it but had every right to expect it.
    5. Nani takes advantage of Gomes' error and scores.
    6. The linesman flags as soon as he realises the ref has given a goal.
    7. Tottenham players are shooed away, whilst the ref and linesman get their story straight, all the while Rio is allowed to get his point across.

I won't deny Gomes made an error and never will but the wholly incompetant officiating at every stage of the incident is unforgivable. With regards to whether it made a difference, it may or may not have - the balance of the game up 'till then is largely irrelevant(although in my opinion and the BBC's the game was even), of all the fans in the World Utd fans should appreciate that points can be gained in the final minutes whether or not the team have played well.

Ensil you really do have a problem with any differing opinion dont you? Must be very boring on the spurs board if all you do is agree all the time.

Yes i made a typo big whoop.

And what you say isnt true. Only the very deluded will refuse to ever alter the veiws on any subject and there is often a wide view within the fanbase of any club. For instance i do not agree with 19 saying the ref did nothing wrong. He clearly made a mistake and handled the resulting situation badly. What i think you should accept was that if Gomes had done what he should have then it would not have cost you anything and therefore you can't pin it all on bad luck. The idea that Referees are in anyway biased is stupid. Sometimes they can be slightly influenced by the reactions of a home crowd but that is it.

Yeah, I believe he's out of the first team, but I believe he's playing with the reserves now. Apparently he's got a shout at being ready for the Arsenal game next week though.

I'd certainly never suggest it was anything to do with luck. The decision was simply another in a long sequence of poor and on occasion bizarre decisions from the officials when we've visited Old Trafford.

United fans may argue that Gomes is at fault, but they cannot deny that Nani handling the ball should have been a free kick. At the same time, though, Spurs fans may argue that its the refs fault, but cannot deny that Gomes should have played to the whistle.

    Thats it. The bottom line.

Last season is now over anyway and the goal stood. No point in holding a grude or trying to get it changed. Both Gomes & the ref cocked up and the goal stood.

I don't understand why we're still debating this. Its done. Its over. Even if they did retrospectively replay the game (which they definately won't) and Spurs won, United would still come first overall in the premiership and Spurs would still come 5th.

Lets just hope for a good fair game tomorrow, eh? <ok>

I just realised that we've managed to get Lidls posting on the Man Utd board.
All it took was for the article to also appear on the Spurs board!

United 2-1 Spuds. Anyone who thinks Spuds will win at OT is very stupid.

    Nani and Rooney - Defoe.

Hey guys. Just received a text from a mate, he was listening to talksport tonight. Harry Redknapp was apparantly on and said Modric wont play tommorow night as his head is not in the right place. Dont take it as gospel as i personally didnt hear it but if this is true expect this saga to come to a end within the next week.

He said that Modric was carrying an injury, but that he might have been able to play through it if his head was in the right place, basically.

    Me?
Redknapp seems to think that Levy's dug his heels in and that looks like the end of it.
    I'm inclined to agree.

He also suggested that the chairman would sit down with Modric after the window had shut and work something out.
For some reason he's out in America.
