If you read what I put, I wrote there is a higher proportion of households in Switzerland which have a firearm.
They aren't kept as a souvenir. They are supposedly meant to be available in case of invasion. Would it be really difficult to get hold of some ammunition?
If you want to ban guns all together: 1. Make them illegal, offer an amnesty and then impose a prison sentence and/or fine to anyone found to have possession of one, plenty of people will take them up on this because staying out of prison and providing for your family is far more important than having a gun to many Americans, despite what people might think. 2. Stop the sale of ammunition and spare parts, eventually the guns that remain in circulation will become obsolete, stockpiled ammunition will run out and broken guns will not fixable. 3. Wait for cultural change, as gun ownership drops and they are not readily available peoples opinions and views will change, owning a gun will not be normalised and the next generation will not view them in the same light as their parents, the desire to own a fire arm will gradually decline. All very simple in theory and all would reduce gun ownership, I'm not suggesting that's the approach I would take either but implement those three steps and only an idiot could argue that gun ownership in the US wouldn't be lower in a few decades time.
I could link you to a site that shows you Swizerland has the highest proportions of households with guns in than anywhere else. Statistics? Pah...
Presumably you think Trump should build his wall. Otherwise how do you stop them being smuggled in from Mexico. That just leaves thousands of miles of borders with Canada and coastline to police.
Illegal guns will always exist, its just unavoidable, there's thousands in the UK and we have strict gun laws and no shared boarders, if we can't keep them out then the US has no chance, criminals will always have illegal guns. The vast majority of guns in the US are owned by normal people not criminals, these people are not going to be willing to source illegal guns from smuggling gangs, for starters most wouldn't know how to. More importantly if guns were illegal then the strong gun culture and desire to own a gun would decline massively, even if illegal guns were available, in a few generations time people simply wouldn't want them.
So, no answer to how tyhey would stop hins getting in to the US? They had prohibition, a period which saw more alcohol consumed in America than any other.
I have no idea. It is not my job to control borders etc. Making it a criminal offence will stop the vast majority of fruitcakes in random shootings which can only be a good thing. You will always have hitmen etc but like Airlie has previously stated stopping the normal family man from opening fire can only be a good thing. I can see this rumbling on so before it does I will just say lets beg to differ. We obviously see things differently. Airlie has come up with good ideas which is better than just accepting these mindless killings.
These acts aren't caused by otherwise law-abiding citizens. They're already breaking the law by possessing weapons they cannot legally own, so why does anyone think more laws are going to help? To address the ability to obtain guns illegally you have to address the illegal drug trade, because that is what fuels the availability. The much deeper problem, however, is the societal decline which yields more people willing to take the lives of others. This is a problem decades in the making so it will take much more than an act of Congress to reverse.

It's been confirmed that the ****er responsible died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The church was used by his in-laws, but they weren't there at the time, dunno if that played any part. Looks a bit like Wiggo on a bad day... please log in to view this image
