    What do you mean?

I certainly feel I have never felt less connected in my time supporting the club in the past few years.

It's why when people don't understand when I say I wouldn't mind going down. They say surely you want to be the best you can, and while that is true to an extent for me supporting Saints has always been more than that, an emotional connection and being part of something. Which is slowly eroding year on year.

    Away games are better admittedly.

Agree with that. I feel entirely connected. It’s just a bit ****ty at the moment. Buckle up and on we go.

When you talk about away days being better, I don't see that as your connection/desire for the club. That's you just preferring the away day experience. In a way, this makes me think your connection is stronger than you realise. (Though I'm not trying to tell you or anyone how you feel; clearly I can't do that - just saying how it comes across to me).

I also think you not minding if we go down as another sign that you have that connection/desire still.

I still have a massive connection with the club, but the current first team less so.

Fair enough mate, now you put it like that I probably agree <ok>

Maybe it's a poor way of wording it, I certainly haven't lost my emotional attachment to the club, although people take the piss with how seriously fans take it all, the day I stop caring is frankly the day I stop going.

Maybe it would be better to say it's the feeling part of something that is eroding year on year. I still have my emotional connection with the club, but not really the current team/fanbase in general and the connection with top level football is dying out all together. In fact if it wasn't for my love of Saints, I'd probably **** it all off and follow Eastleigh or Sholing etc.

    Indeed

I love the ' Southampton way', unfortunately Southampton have lost 'their way' at the moment.

The results aren't there, so at the very least you want to be entertained. We are not.
I'm angry, p1ssed off, frustrated, disappointed, confused, embarrassed, bored and annoyed with the performances this season. Yet I can't wait for the next match. Call it an addiction or mis placed optimism but if we are going to be in a fight, I want to be in that fight. I wannabe in that number......

    Yeah true <laugh>

Like I say when he put it like that I realised I agreed.

It's refreshing to see someone say that me saying I wouldn't mind going down proves my desire etc. When I have people who say it makes me not a proper fan <doh>

Usually fans of big teams really and have no idea what supporting your local club is really about <ok>

I even made a post after the Stoke (i think?) game saying having a go at comments like "im ready to **** saints off" or "cant be ****ed with saints anymore" as it was a shame and pissed me off to read. I hope everyone realises I'm not meaning the same thing when I say things like above.

Thing is, I don’t think the tactical deficiencies (or questionable choices) would be anything like as pronounced if we had someone who had the managerial psychological makeup to drag these players up by the short and curlies. Even those that want to go - to drive them on, to motivate them, to dig out their desire.

That’s the part I think is most missing. Tactics be damned. This is a group of underperforming individuals from a psychological perspective.

There seems to be almost no team spirit too which can take you so far alone. Us and Leicester in recent times a great example.

Are you 100% saying you are no longer a ST holder because of the football or because of other personal circumstances?

I am not going as a ST holder this season (my dad is using mine for his mates) due to family circumstances. It has nothing to do with the football and when people say to me, "Good season to miss," I always reply that it isn't and it's eating me that I'm not there in person!

I've kept me silence for a while but actually Fats, I believe a lot of people don't understand what disappointment is, and get a little more dramatic but suggesting the connection is lost and stuff.

Is just disappointment versus expectation and it really isn't such a big deal. I know you talk a lot about fans expectations, and I have to admit I don't expect us to win, and there are many good teams in the league, and I believe we are possibly the spiralling team that plops out of the division unless a major overhaul happens, and believe we have the right history in our club structure to just about pull it off.

I have more hope and belief that we can win games, and hopefully my view may allow a number of posters to see the disappointment thing for what it is and nothing more.

A final thought is I'd be amazed if a club run like ours isn't talking to other managers just now, they will be getting a little nervous.
