Which is why that is the one reason why I wouldn't sack him. Nothing to do with whether or not he deserves to be sacked, but because any manager in reality is going to massive struggle with this upcoming set of fixtures. So let MP have them, and then sack him. (Unless he somehow manages to come out the other side with a great haul of points - but as I say, very unfair to expect him to do that). Give a new guy the best possible chance to start off well, in due course.

Worst thing about today was that at 0-0, I was just waiting for the 0-1 notification. It came, and I just sighed but I knew it would happen.

Against Burnley at home this is not acceptable.

I understand that the fans aren't the only culprit in your statement, I'm just disputing the causality. IMO, our biggest problem is a lack of effort from top to bottom; we're a team that hasn't shown any great impulses to move forward, beginning with the board, and it has permeated the dressing room, the stands, and the manager's office. We're just drifting sideways, and unless we turn things over in a substantial way, we'll keep drifting sideways.

I think at board level we rested on our laurels, and thought now we were a top 8 team and we didn't have to do too much to stay there.

Almost has a feeling of Les feeling untouchable.

Yep. If you’re gonna do a mid-season sacking and you really think the upcoming fixtures are dire, then hand Pellegrino his rope and start speaking to candidates now.

    Apologies for grim analogy.

Just seen this on SW... <laugh>

    Southampton 2017/18:

Play OK first half, never brilliant but always with a few moments of "that was encouraging" thrown in to give fans hope. 8 outfield players play a 6/10, one plays slightly better and one plays slightly worse. There's a sense that we are the better team but not by much.

Take a step backwards in the second half, by about 65 minutes look totally out of ideas and it now looks like the other team have us, and the game, sussed. Keep doing the same things but keep fingers crossed that a defensive mistake or moment of individual brilliance gives us a chance to score whilst also hoping that Forster does not have to move his feet to make a save, else we will concede and lose the game. End the game wondering why you spent your Saturday afternoon watching that rubbish.

Repeat for pretty much every game.

Bertrand should be dropped. Guy hasn't looked arsed since he got Puel sacked. He can go to city for 25m if he wants.

But we all know board will sack Pellegrino sadly

    It's so hilariously depressingly true.

Mentioning someone like McQueen is linked to one point that I actually don't really see mentioned: aside from the odd JWP appearance, we're pretty bereft of anyone from the youth team. People were very quick to have a go at Ron, but it seems to have used more youngsters than MP.

Now personally, I'm someone who doesn't care. I don't care if you're from Southampton, Manchester or Cape Town. I don't care if you're 20 or 30. But lots of people do care, and after seeing a lot of Stephens and McQueen under Puel, I wouldn't be surprised if over the coming weeks the youth card is used against card MP.

That was dire. I have no idea what the manager is trying to do. I have seen no evidence of any improvement since he came in. There is no plan no risk no excitement. It's dull and totally ineffective. It's cautious empty football - its nothing football.

    Are we really though?

Sorry but that's one thing I'm simply not seeing.

Could do with the naive enthusiasm of youth on the pitch though, heh. They're too young to know to be spiritually broken!

I feel so detached from the players and the team right now.

I will always check the scores and hopefully for a win but there are very few players that I look at and think yeah I like him playing for my team.

The worse thing a board can do when they sack a manager is not have a plan in place. And yet so often you see it. We have a great chance now to get that plan in place, should we then need to execute it come late December or early January.

Appointing Poch straight after sacking Adkins might have made a harsh looking decision look even harsher still, but it was correct. No doubt we were talking to Poch for weeks before hand, and he was getting himself up to speed in the background.

What makes it worse, is that I actually think that was our best performance of the season. Such are our low standards this season.

Especially at the end of the first half, and start of the second, until Dyche stepped in and took a grip of the game.

Exactly how I feel. I have no intention of shelling out for a ticket any time soon. Hell I'm pissed at £25 down the drain for the membership!
