I don't think it is. A while back there was talk of a percentage of ticket sales over a certain amount going back to the council, but it's never happened, so I assume it was bum information. Everything put out by the club and the council suggests that the percentage of SMC profits is the only thing that can generate any income for the council. It's a terrible arrangement for the council, not only do they get nothing from the stadium, but they paid about £6-700k to rent some offices in the stadium (an arrangement that ended after the first ten years) and there's other daft things, like the council being responsible for the maintenance of the car parks without any cost contribution from the SMC (car parks they can't even get into now because they're gated).
I do not think a tenant has the right to remove anything that belongs to the landlord that is attached to the fabric of the building without notice.
It's not my area but the SMC have leased the property from the landlord so in theory they own it till the lease runs out so I imagine they can do what they have done. The SMC should be independent from the Council and owners then we wouldn't have this petty nonsense.
I will have a shot at an answer, more than likely there are no grounds to cancel the lease and never will be. The Allams and their lawyers are smart enough to read what it says to the letter and comply with it whilst doing the minimum for the council and the maximum for Allamhouse. Ripping off the tax payer? well they are if you agree with the spirit of the original agreement, The SMC runs the stadium to make a profit and some of that profit goes back to the council who paid all those millions to build the place. What happened was the SMC came to be owned by the owners of Hull City which has permitted the juggling of money from one to the other (see OLM's bit) and as a result there is no profit to pay to the council and loads of debt which means no one want to buy the SMC even for a pound ( a fiver in my case )
I'e been critical of HCC but I must applaud them for the improvement they'e made to the city centre and COC. Don' most people criticise their councils.
Be interesting to hear what he said... Kev Shoesmith @hdm_shoesmith I am. I also put the claim to AA that his family is 'sticking two fingers up at the people of Hull'. Story follows.
Every City, Town or Village criticise their council. It's what they're there for. That doesn't mean we should stop getting on their backs though. They'd run amock ffs
I'll put some SMC financial info on the accounts thread after I've eaten, if for nothing more than to help Chazz sleep.
In every city and town in the country some people are slagging their own council off. Why? Perhaps for some misdemeanour, some perceived grievance or perhaps just the passed-on unquestionable maxim of the idiot that ‘all councils/politicians are bad’. In all that time, from speaking and reading, I’ve never come across any critique that could all-purposefully and justifiably condemn the council – people doing the criticising just aren’t up to it, usually. Their sources are often a poor form of secondary, their evaluation is selective/not fit for purpose and usually peppered with an ignorance of how an organisation works. I don’t live under HCC. But, from where I’m sitting, the current lot are presiding over a rebirth of the city I never expected to see in my life. Things are far from perfect, but let us be realistic here. Have they made mistakes? Yes. Will they make mistakes again? Yes. Remember, the council is by and large, Hull people earning a wage working for Hull people. Nothing more, nothing less.
Assem Allam said: "I have no time for nonsense. No-one has a right to do anything to rented accommodation until the tenant leaves." Asked how his family would respond if the council were to replace the signs, Mr Allam replied: "You ask my lawyers."
The allams arnt ripping off the Council payers if they are working legaly within the lease contract...... We could be really picky and say the council ripped of the tax payer by proposing such a poor lease agreement back when the stadium was built etc...
Whilst I have no truck with the Labour party in Hull, I do have to agree with Councillor Hale (that's a 1st ) Its vindictive and very silly.
Ha, ha. It's the way you tell 'em Assem. 'I have no time for nonsense' Well, only since November 2010.
Allam quote from the article "We do not answer every Tom, Dick and Harry. We have no time. We are busy people, creating jobs and exporting. We are providing wealth for the community." So we can assume he is definitely sticking two fingers up at the people of Hull as always. I am just so angry. Every time you think he can't sink any lower something else happens. I would love his bloody business to go bust. Never seem to hear from anyone that works for him, presume they have to sign the Allams Official Secrets Act.
