Okay, first Doc I don't want a pissing match with you, I like your posts, I agree with half of what you say, the other half that I disagree with is still thought provoking and no right or wrong, I respect opinion.

You did get my back up with the (how I read it) sarcastic opening paragraph about all being experts when an opinion is being given.

    Moving on from that..

I've had some thinking time on the Orta and Thomas situation and who makes the final call. Firstly if Thomas is calling the shots why are we wasting a wage on a director of football?

I've also been having a think about the comment made by Orta in that Thomas gets the final call and I think it should be called manipulation.

    1) You're offered a choice of 3-4 players and told pick one

    2) Scenario... Thomas is told by Orta that Wood is being sold, he obviously requests a replacement and quite possibly said I'd like Gayle. Orta returns and says we can't afford his wages, Thomas requests another striker and is told the club won't sell him.

Thomas gets concerned as the season is underway and Orta comes up to him and says deadline is approaching, we have found you Grot and Lasogga, yes or no? Thomas says yes okay, we need strikers.

Question is can you truly define that as Thomas having been consulted and having the final say?

YES it is a POSSIBLE make believe scenario but my point is how do you define a coach having the final say? Remember the reason why Monk left ;) <ok>

All the talk about Orta has made me think, what is the guys track record in football to date. Cant find anything on wiki. Maybe his judgement is the problem. I dont know, just putting it out there

I remember looking him up on a Boro forum, they were mainly pleased to see the back of him. He helped them win promotion but then went straight back down. I remember thinking at the time that the relegation didn't matter, spotting potential capable of taking us out of this division is priority.

Orta is credited with the signings of: Victor Valdes, Brad Guzan, Antonio Barragan, Bernardo Espinosa, Gaston Ramirez, Adama Traore, Viktor Fischer, Fabio, Marten De Roon, Alvaro Negredo, Rudy Gestedes and Patrick Bamford.

    Interesting
    http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport/...o-hero-former-middlesbrough-scouting-13619018

Orta has come to be seen as a divisive figure at Boro and with questions being raised over the amount of influence he had on certain players within and without the dressing room.

Orta himself left at the end of last seaso and soon joined up with Leeds, where there’s no confusion about job titles or lines of responsibility.

In a nutshell, Orta is the director of football and head coach Thomas Christiansen answers to him
    .

It would "SEEM" that Rads has employed Orta as his right hand man. Is Orta any better than Cellino, that is the question...

Ristac fair comment and likewise, my point was that we all have opinions on players and football tactics etc, but dont know anything about behind the scenes. So although we are all 'experts' on the team we arent on the club.

Orta is a strange one as on the continent he is highly thought of and Steve Gibson was chuffed to land him and he got them promotion. There was some unrest in the dressing room when Karanka went wasnt there? Players Orta brought in were being benched. My own view (A view) is that we have a good guy as DoF and if he is given cash we know he can bring in a different level of player to what we have. He has found some promising talent so far, but some of it is either not ready or not capable of doing it at this level in this league with such a big crowd.

Possible aces are: Alioski and Saiz signed, Lassoga on loan

Not cutting it yet: Grot, Cibicki, Felix, Klich. Grot looked the dogs in Holland on You Tube, so did Cibicki and everyone knows my views on Klich as he should be on the team sheet every game based upon his last couple of seasons.

Tommy being good or crap: Phillips has been a revelation, O'Kane developed, Viera being nursed, use of Pablo and Samu in the same team, I never thought it could happen. Pennington, O'Shaughnessy

The bad Tommy: Ayling has gone from great defender to rampaging winger who thinks hes Zico. Pontus needs something even if a kicking, Cooper started well gone backwards, CBJ started great gone backwards. Defensively we are lacking. New set piece coach seems pointless as most scored against us when we leave a player to do what he wants. Roofe started well as a striker but gone backwards as will never be a striker at this level. Sacko still lacking and almost a black Aidy White

    I'm sure.
The lighweight, diving twat should go missing before the game instead of during it.

TC must be relying on one of his dives getting us a penalty. No other reason to play him.

Good evening all. Was so pissed off from the last two results thought I'd give myself a few days to collect my thoughts. Just catching up an all of the threads. Have to say that these results have lasted too long for me to call it a 'blip' or 'slump', it is just possible that this is the season we are in for, a few wins and losses but not really challenging. It's odd, we don't seem far off in most games. With the exception of the wendies, we haven't been battered but we just can't seem to dominate teams for prolonged periods of time.
As for the TC / Orta debate, Tommy will be fully used to a DOF, practically every club in Europe (hope that doesn't start another brexit row) operates that model. He would understand how it worked when he was a player and would fully understand his role now as a coach. So the question is simply, has Orta recruited badly or is TC not getting the best out of them. Looking to the next game more in hope than expectancy.

The DoF title reminds me of the old 'General Manager' title that was afforded successful managers that had reached their sell-by date, but still had something to offer the club. A move upstairs, with a nod, nod, wink, wink. I started to think of GMs of old that were, in effect, DoFs in all but name. I thought of a couple, but somehow, the name O'Leary popped into my head & wouldn't leave it. Don't know why, but I had a good think about his stint with us. Basically, he started as a 'tracksuit manager' who was always on the training field with 'his babies'. A coach, if you like. He then eased away from the training field and left all coaching to his deputies/assistants, leaving him more time to sign players etc. A DoF, if you like. So in the end, DoL bought in the players, and told his staff the way he wanted us to play. So what's the difference between that set-up & the present set-up? Quite a lot, probably, but there's enough there to stimulate some thought & discussion, I hope.

Must also confess that my painkillers are kicking in bigstyle, so possibly not making my point in the way I should. Ah well. Off now to count the tweety birds flying around my head. :D
