I don't think Adam would have gone. Thing is, Poch is perfect for (us) Spurs because what he's exceptional at is blending a great team together and maximising the potential of the people he has at his disposal. Hence why, in a weird way, he's the perfect person for a club like Spurs who have that kind of wage ceiling in place, and are bringing through youth players. Real don't have that wage limitation, or as a result ego limitation, so it would be risky, although they do have young players coming through. I've no doubt he'd be a success, I just wonder if the grass would really be greener.
Nah that won't matter I don't think. Win the PL with Spurs this year and FA Cup (as an example) and players will still want out next summer if the money is right. Will be seen as a big achievement and players may think job done now to move on to one of the really elite for mega money. Even if Spurs kept this team for another 3 years and were winning trophies every year I still think the players would want out if they weren't getting paid more. They would think that leaving to a Man City they would have just as much chance of winning stuff there and on significantly more money.
Only Saints fans would sit there the night after a team defeat the current Champions League holders convincingly at home and talk about how and when it will all fall apart! We know that feeling all to well...
There are parallels between Spurs and Atletico. Atletico three years ago, where Spurs are now in the cycle. In this period, Atletico have managed to keep hold of all their principal star player despite overtures from wealthier and "bigger" clubs. Hopefully, Spurs can go on to emulate and even supercede Atletico's achievements.
I think he would have, don't think Poch would have topped playing in the CL for a world famous club. We'll never know of course. Agreed he's a perfect fit for Spurs and was for us too for all the reasons you mention. It's irrelevant really as I don't see them coming in for him, don't ever remember them making an appointment of a manager who has never won anything not from within before. United after Jose much more likely.
I find the "he hasn't won anything" argument a bit weird (not saying you're making that particularly). What's absolutely evident is the fact he goes into clubs, stamps his personality on the team, the players love him and he massively improves sides. The fact he hasn't been at a side with the most obvious resources to win things regularly is moot for me. He's come bloody close with Spurs, and at the current trajectory he will win things. I struggle to think of a side in world football that wouldn't do better with him in charge.
Agree that I think it's only a matter of time before he wins something, though probably elsewhere. He undoubtedly improves teams too but until he does win something then there will always be that element of doubt from some (not me particularly) about that mentality to push your team over the line. I only made that example of real Madrid specifically to them as it's not their style of appointment. It would be interesting to see how a team of egos responded to him coming in though as he hasn't really had that yet. I still think he'll replace Jose at United and dominate for years.
He's an absolute shadow of the player he was. I have watched almost 90 minutes of an Everton game just to see how he's been doing, and in that game his performance was said to be OK. I thought it was decidedly unmemorable. I can't even remember the bloody game it was so mediocre. He doesn't know what he has to do and when to do it. All I can say is that he must have been superbly coached at Saints. EDIT: Another thing, reports say that 10 man Everton lost 3-0. They were 11 man for 80 minutes, for pete's sake. Hardly at a disadvantage.
He's a shadow. Its really sad, his last two moves have both been very bad choices. Saying that, Everton are pretty good a making everyone look dreadful.
Anyone see Evra? Full on booted a fan in the face, **** knows what it was over but first player to be sent off before a game in EL history. He'll get a huge ban for that.
