He had a driver's license and drove a rental. If we take away rental trucks, we can keep America safe! Isn't that what most of the posts in this thread want? To take away the instrumentality of the terror act?
And of course, owning an armoury of semi-automatic weapons is just as vital as being able to drive a vehicle about. How many did the LA gunman kill? 60, and over 400 wounded. Thank God this Islamic man-devil didn't have an AK 47. Thoughts are with those injured and the relatives of those that died.
The minute that someone kills 59 people and injures 400-500 others with a truck from the 32nd floor of an adjacent hotel, your point can be addressed. Trucks, whilst they can be used as weapons, are primarily for transport. Semi-automatic guns are ONLY for killing. See the difference there?
Why is an uneducated man from Uzbekistan able to gain a Green Card, the most prestigious and apparently hardest permit to attain in the World? There was an Austrian Airlines flight from Vienna to JFK that went every Monday with 99% of persons on it not able to speak a word of English and coming from the "Stans" (not our own Stan). I was on it once and it was to say the least spooky as we only reached the connection at last moment. I asked the stewardess (who had plenty of time on her hands as we were the only ones drinking alcohol) what was going on. She replied that it was the same every Monday, that these people would be met at JFK immediately and that they receive automatic Green Cards. It appears that there are some strange things going on at higher levels - UK has had plenty of opportunity of invoking current law to limit persons staying permanently but chooses not to. The US - which doesn't allow easy giving out of Green Cards, gives it to someone like this - and apparently in abundance and systamtically - strange.
I’ve got a mate who relocated to the US from the U.K. for my company. You can do it on a visa for 3-4 years then have to naturalise/go on to local terms and conditions or go home. He loves it over there so decided to stay and apply for his Green Card. Now, he has a very specialised role, there are probably only 10-20 other people in the whole industry who do what he does. Yet it took nearly two years for him to get his Green Card, they were asking about qualifications and their US equivalence, wanted references from jobs in the nineties, endless knock backs, even with our corporate lawyers on his side. He was ****ting himself as he’d bought a house, and the value of it if he had to sell would not have bought him a rabbit hutch in south east England. Yet this nutter just walks in. As you say, strange.
There is a Green Card lottery system here with about 50,000 cards each year. It is divided by countries that are given a certain amount. The Original law was enacted by a prominent Irish Senator. About 40% of the cards went to Irish citizens, others a lot less. None for the British. Not sure what the latest rules are.
That’s just odd. Why not grant asylum to truly desperate people and judge other immigrants by what skills/capital they bring and family connections?
Semi-automatic weapons are illegal here, as they should be. Handguns are regulated here, as they should be. Rifles are used for hunting, here for sure and there, I guess. It should not be a crime to hunt for your food or keep the predators away from the livestock. You can own a rifle in the UK, right? Maybe the government permits it just in the country where the fox hunts occur? Tally Ho gentlemen and all that rot!
Man Shot a woman this morning on Manhattan with a hand gunl as she was putting here Citi bike in the rack. He then shot himself.
Massively strange - I of course support honest, support for genuine need and how to define genuine with an equal will is impossible. Just that I can't fathom a country that makes it so difficult for no brainers, than has a lottery programme for potentially "difficult" countries. Have almost exactly the same examples for the company I worked for.
Trump has said he wants to scrap the lottery. So, given his record go getting stuff done, it’s going nowhere.
Sad story....she never knew it was her last day on this earth. Too bad the guy didn't do a better job topping himself. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5038923/Woman-shot-parking-CitiBike-Manhattan.html Another recent local murder/suicide story:- http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-b...rder-suicide-saint-john-lake-louise-1.4372854
Semi Automatic weapons are NOT illegal (with the possible exception of a couple of states) and neither are the bump stocks used to convert them to fully automatic. Get it right mate. And there are severe restrictions here on what guns can be owned, how they must be stored, and most importantly who can own one. Bought in after Hungerford and Dunblane, which were the last occasions here that would count as a ‘mass’ shooting in the US. Law changes work. But hey - let’s make it about someone else rather than having to face the problems you have, right?
