Agree. It doesn't take in the overall picture, shots saved, quality of defence Tec and haven't seen all the other goals but I'm sure there are plenty out of the 20 let in by butland and pickford that they could have done better on. More occasions than forster.

I'd take Butland over Forster any day of the week. Quality keeper.

Yeah he's not the worst, but without thinking about it properly I'd say he's in the bottom 5 or so.

It's not his shot stopping I've always had issue with.

Any keeper should be a decent shot stopper at this level, it's the other aspects which decide the average from the good.

OK, I concede Speroni but would take Gomes for sure.
Elliot? Not much in it but more agile and more willing to leave his line so on balance I'd prefer him to Fraser right now.

Mignolet was criticised behind a very poor Liverpool defence. Forster was lauded behind a very good Saints defence.

Forster is not behind that bad a defence now yet is not looking good. Would mignolet have been better than Forster behind Alderweld/Fonte?

Really?! Mignolet seems to have been around for years and years. Must be my imagination.

Ok yes from what I know I would probably swap.

It is easy to see that quite a few of our posters on here have clearly have not played football to any level and if they have they haven’t as a goal keeper.
Anyone that has played as a keeper will tell you it is one of the most difficult positions to play. Unlike an outfield player who can often create time on the ball a goalie does not in the main have that luxury. Each ball that is crossed into the box, or each player attacking it will be different in that you will not know what is likely to happen. A goalkeeper cannot predict what a anyone in the box is going to do. Which includes his own defenders.(Although he would normally expect certain things from them) So much of a goalkeepers work is reactionary. Split second decision making which can change just as quickly. He is a big goalkeeper and while that has its advantages it also has other drawbacks on the agility side. It is very rare to get both from a large goalkeeper. I think he has lost a bit of confidence and being ridiculed while he is playing is not going to help.

We must keep Foster for if we were to let him go the vindictive ignorant bastards who constantly criticise him would just start stabbing some other poor sod in the back.

Rickie Lambert told me he was leaving Saints because of something you’d written, and I defy you to disprove that statement.

That is all well and good, but we aren't talking about Mike who plays in goal for the Dog and Duck second XI on a Sunday. We are talking about a Premier League goalkeeper. He should be able to do the reactionary/anticipatory side of it well, that is his job, and being a top flight keeper he is supposedly one of the best at this job. The odd mistake people can let off (some won't but they should) this isn't a knee jerk reaction or a "scapegoat", this has been happening for over a season now. I agree booing him/sarcastically applauding at games is pointless and could have a negative impact, but constantly letting him off these mistakes is costing us points and I would hope the recruitment team are looking at this position as somewhere we should be looking to recruit in the near future.

Also anyone who has played football to any decent level will tell you how important it is to have a good keeper behind you and one you have confidence in, I doubt Saints players have that with Fraser

Fraser is having a bad time for sure. He has never been good at coming for crosses.

    Granted.

However and this is what makes me laugh and shows how fans only see what they think they see... on Sunday Fraser came out of his six yard box and caught balls into the box more times than he has all season*

*probably. But quite a few times.

Agreed, I haven't once blamed him for Sunday and still haven't seen the goal back since the match.

It works both ways though and people who have their favourites never see the bad, and some are just simply flat out ignoring what's been plainly obvious for over a year now.

Our defence as a whole is very good, we have only conceded 10 goals which makes us the 6th best defence in the division. So the problem is not our defence and the reason why every goal that we concede gets analyzed to death is because the guys on the other end can't score and we're so reliant on our defence to get something from the game.

It probably doesn't help that the only shots he has to save in training come from our attackers. I imagine by this point he instinctively expects every shot to sail wide. <laugh>
