I'm no fan of Murphy as a pundit (there aren't many I do like, tbh) but I'm going to play Devil's Advocate here a bit.
From what I read he seemed to be saying that highlighting their names shows they're more interested in themselves than the team they're are playing for, and I think he may have a point there. Too many young players think they're the dog's bollocks too soon and expect stardom long before they've earned it. I think this when I see a player pointing to his name on the back of his shirt during celebrations.
It's not really their fault, tbh, they're young and they've been brought up in the "I'm worth it" culture which promotes self -aggrandisement and selfishness over teamwork.
I'm not knocking their achievement, or their right to be pleased with their performance, but if they're good enough their names will be noticed without the need for self-promotion. Ultimately individualism is detrimental to a team ethic, and thinking you've made it too soon is harmful to a young player's career.

This should get me a few bites. <whistle> <laugh>

Murphy's wrong about the England badge not being on display. Although it's not the size of the chest badge, every number has the England logo emblazoned on it so those with a double digit squad number are even displaying the England badge in duplicate. I get what he's saying mind. But, I also bet that most involved in football know what colours each country plays in anyway. Is it disrespectful - he hasn't said that I don't think - but I don't think it is, it's just youthful exuberance. It's not like they're taking a knee at the national anthem - [ in the knowledge of why it's being done I don't find that disrespectful either for the record].

When they were on the podium after getting presented with the trophy their faces, faces of joy and happiness and celebration is what I saw, Murphy was to busy looking at their shirts to notice how young they are and what a close knit team they are, theyre kids, he should let them enjoy their fantastic achievement.

Liverpool defender Lovren was at fault for Spurs' opening two goals in last week's 4-1 defeat, leading to his substitution after just 31 minutes

I've just read that myself. There is absolutely no place for that kind of behavior so it is rightly being condemned.

However, what bugged me was Riise's comment of "that's not a fan".

WTF does he really know about being a fan? He doesn't know how annoying it can be to see the club make the same mistakes over and over, never mind individual players doing the same AND getting away with it!

Now, in no way shape or form an I condoning threatening behaviour but to say the guy that did it isn't a fan? What was his ****ing motive then ffs? <doh>

The guy that did it is clearly a ****ing dick that happens to also be a Liverpool fan.

PS... unless, of course, JAR actually meant the guy isn't a Lovren fan but if say that's a given considering

You can look at it another way. Riise's saying something like - real fans don't do stuff like that. No matter how upset you may be with the player or the team atm, that's no way to behave. In honesty I think the same. I don't want to be associated under the title of 'LFC fans' with anyone who can stoop so low.

Over reacting (massively) doesn't mean you're not a fan.

I understand the sentiment behind JAR comment but it's still a bullshit comment. What he should have said is "no one associated to the club wants fans making comments like that" or something along those lines.

Whether you agree with someone else's actions or not, you do not have the right to decide who they do our don't support!

i agree. you only make it worse.

you get in line and condemn and leave it at that.

the police will eventually trace the account once whatever social media company eventually is forced via warrant to give name.

IMO all social media platforms should have to cough up within oh i dunno 5 days of report or lose license to operate in country.

I was tempted to change that to fan as I knew you would pick up on it but decided to leave it in for that reason!

He supports the club. What does this mean?

Supporting a club is often likened to religion. How much religion related crime do we see?

He loves the club and his anger got the better of him.

It's still not acceptable and hopefully the guy will get caught and rightly made am example of.

Still a fan though and that's the point!

Fans saying things they don't actually mean does not mean that people should condone it.

That's a very good analogy and I would say the same thing about 'religious' zealots as well <ok>

btw we don't yet know whether the idiot's an LFC fan or even a football fan of any persuasion.

Surely, if he supported any other club, he'd love Lovren? Especially if they were a Evertonn Chelsea or Man Utd fan <laugh>

There's some seriously disturbed people out there with access to the internet. It could be anyone. If it does get investigated and it turns out to be an LFC 'fan', I still maintain my right to not acknowledge their allegiance.

So, despite his ludicrous message to Lovren, how is he not a fan? A fan is someone who likes something, that would be his choice.

Even the term supporter can't really be questioned; he could simply buy a replica shirt to be supporting (albeit, on a very minor level) the club.

Quite simply, only one person can determine whether he's a fan or supporter and that is the individual himself.

You're entitled to labble him a **** if you like though <ok>

Edit; I'd be very surprised if it turns out to be anything other than a self claimed Liverpool fan
