The morning started with rumours that Tottenham were still after Andy Carroll. Word then arose that Liverpool were keen on the striker. Later on in the morning it appeared that we had rejected a bid from Liverpool in the region of £30m.

Andy Carroll then caught ear that Liverpool would be prepared to pay him £80k a week.

Mid afternoon, reports suggest that Liverpool FC have increased their bid to £35m with possible add ons. Newcastle United promptly rejected once again and stuck to their word.

Andy Carroll at this time had been having a word with Alan Pardew and was demanding negotiations in regards to his contract. I believe this is where Andy Carroll's mind was clouded by greed.

Pardew, Ashley and the board either decided to offer Andy a better contract (but still not to Carroll's demands of Liverpool's £80k per week offer) or declined to re-negotiate considering he had just signed a 5 and a half year deal. (Claims are that they now offered to re-negotiate the contract in the summer).

Andy Carroll was not happy with what he was offered and immediately submitted a transfer request.

The club most likely realised that they could not hold onto the player without matching Liverpool's £80k per week contract (especially due to our wage cap) and decided to accept Liverpool's offer of £35m plus add ons. Or they were not willing to re-negotiate his current contract on the spot.

In the aftermath, it may be likely that Andy Carroll realised the scale of his decision to leave and the possible negative image his transfer request had portrayed. Andy Carroll may have then sent text messages (most likely advised by his money grabbing agent) to try and redeem himself with the fans.

UPDATE: Alan Pardew has just stated on SSN:

    • Pardew advised Ashley and Llambias to reject offers of £30m & £35m. They did so.
    • Carroll wanted to renew his contract instantly, whereas the club offered to do so in the summer.
    • If Andy had wanted to stay, he would have stayed. The club did not force him into the helicopter or twist his arm.
    • Extortionate prices quoted for players in last hour of transfer window.

Sad day for Football after what happened yesterday I think. First Torres who was loved and adored at Anfield, and then Carroll, who was loved even more so! And The cheating scumbag that is Suarez in the Premier League! Anyone remember the hand ball against Ghana in the world cup? Disgraceful.

Yea, and then celebrated the missed penalty like he won the world cup, just highlights the lack of respect a lot of modern day footballers have for the game, if they are happy to win like that

Yep, the reason Uruguay got to the semi final as Gyan missed the penalty <laugh> (I think it was the semi final? Cant remember)

I agree with your views. 100%.

I think Andy's agent had a role to play as well. It's all to do with money lads, if it wasn't then the contract he signed shouldn't even be an issue right? The shirt is what your suppose to be playing for... I mean, look at Joey - he even took a pay cut to say here! At the end of the day Andy knew he was an asset to us and once he got word of what LFC where willing to pay him he instantly saw the £££. The only thing that gets to me in all this is the lies he spouted about this being a dream for him and the emotion about wearing the Number 9.

There's going to be a new dimension to the Sunerland Liverpool game now. Their front two consist of a hated geordie and the worst enemy of their striker

Remember the Iraqi Minister of Propaganda 'Comical Ali'? The one who said the Iraqis were winning the war even when the allies were in the outskirts of Baghdad? I'd rather believe him than anything 'official' that comes out of that club. Course they'll say Carroll wasn't forced to go. They have to.

And of course Carroll will say he 'was' forced to go...

At the end of the day, if what he said after signing his new contract in October was correct, then he would have said "NO".

While I still dont trust MA or DL, its obvious on this occasion it wasn't entirely their fault. Considering the money LFC offered, was it too good to turn down? I think so... But even then, alll this talk about him being forced out is bullshit, Andy had a contract he didn't HAVE to go anywhere, he CHOSE to go.

I think it's pretty obvious - they turned two bids down, one for the same as what they have sold him for - they did that on the final day as well as towards Tottenham throughout January. They have repeatedly said they don't want him to leave. If they wanted him off they'd have taken the bid yesterday morning. They only changed their minds when Andy handed the transfer request in, and that was because they refused to negotiate a contract that was only 3 months old.

Andy's seen the pound signs and it's over inflated his ego to the extent that he can't see the importance of the no9 shirt, playing for his home club, and a possible pay increase in the summer - rewarding his efforts over the season. He'll probably regret it when he gets older and realises money isn't everything. I don't blame Ashley or Pardew or Llambias for this at all tbh - Andy may feel he was 'forced' to go, but what he means is - 'I gave them an ultimatum and they rejected it, so I had to go', not 'they told me to get lost'.

When the Mackems signed him they were all going "we've signed one of the stars of the World Cup" so I posted a link to that match report with a big picture of Gyan with his head in his hands and they all went quiet. :)
