Just seen transfer news on SSN, apparently everton have rejected a 2.5m bid from ourselves. i think they said it was written in 'the people' so best not beleive it!!!

do we need a beckford??? puncheon take 2 is my impression. he can score goals but the attitude doesnt suit our team.

    thoughts??

It's best not to post this type of thread on general chat. I would suggest re-editing it and keep it to the Southampton and/or Everton board(s) only.

Oh dear, you've put this on general chat. Await the WUMS, though hopefully they're sleeping it off. Don't know if Beckford was true or not, but I hope we get a couple of players in. The game yesterday showed how much you need a deep squad. Our team gives everything and they are going to get exhausted with 2 games in most weeks. It's going to be a long season.

Adkins worked with Beckford at Scunthorpe so I don't think his attitude will be a problem with Adkins. He's got Premier League quality but not sure if he would drop down a division if we had a bid accepted.

I only want us to sign players if they improve the team. I like Baldock but I don't think he could play in the Premier League.

22, and he was apparently available for around £1.2 million as of last month. Whether that's the case now that he has five goals in five games is another matter.

I think he's worth £2million IMO. Would be a great prospect and better then Le Fondre who has only been tested at League Two level. Go for it Saints!!

Some of you people really amaze me at times. I have read on these pages all summer that Barnard won't cut it in this league blah blah and now the mention of Sam Baldock on a shoddy rumour site and he seems exceptable!!

If we were to get to the Prem any time soon i'd rather have Barnard any day.

Hope Barney's back soon..we need another striker on bench. I think people have forgotten how good he is.

Barney will be fine in this league. He's a royal pain in the ar$e for defenders and could start with Connolly for some games IMO (Should Ricky need a rest that is).

I pretty much agree with this. I don't see the need to be looking down the Football League for a new striker, when we've got Barnard in reserve.

I'm all for getting an extra striker in (especially if Guly becomes a regular at RM), but I'd only want someone who is proven at this level and who would comfortably improve our team. Ideally they would also be express-pace, as we lack this - but I wouldn't say that's an absoloute neccessity. I'm more than happy to see the likes of Maynard being talked about (albeit not at the high prices quoted), but not the likes of Baldock.

Beckford is completely over rated, and sometimes seems if he cant be bothered, and i dont really see Baldock as an improvement on Barnard or Forte.
Maynards price is too high, but the price will probably come down as the end of the transfer window approaches,as Bristol know they will only get 1-2 million for him in January as his contract runs down.
I think if we do sign a striker it is most likely to be Rodriguez,as Burnley have just bought 2 strikers this week, though again i suspect Cortese is playing a waiting game until near the end of the transfer window,to try to get Burnley to drop their price a bit.
Would still prefer to see a decent centre back come in though.
