With Arsenal's season off to a stumbling start, the departures of Clichy and Fabregas and the possible sales of Nasri, it's clear that Wenger is trying to do some business and bring in some reinforcements, with only a short time to go before the transfer window slams shut.

Having already had a bid turned down for Phil Jagielka and been linked with a bid for Mikel Arteta, could Arsenal go a few steps further and solve most of their problems with a massive bid for a number of the apparently broke Merseyside club?

Leighton Baines would clearly be a big improvement on injury troubled Gibbs.
Tim Howard's experience would probably help out a nervous back line.
John Heitinga's versatility would be invaluable.
Marouane Fellaini's physicality, power and drive would add steel to a frail looking midfield.

    My answer?
A controversial bid for all of those players, including season-long loans of Szczęsny, Traore and Lansbury to Everton, with Bendtner being used as part-exchange to try and keep the price down a little.

Everton are in desperate need of the money.
The board are sending out terrible signals and the team has had another poor start, albeit having only played one game.
Moyes looks increasingly impatient and must be getting very sick of having no money to spend.

I'll admit that Arsenal fans are hardly going to be in awe of any of those signings, but can you really see Wenger bringing in a massive name and risking the development of some of his beloved youngsters?
These players would give those inexperienced prospects some time, but wouldn't break the bank on wages and wouldn't be under as much pressure as any single big signing.

Not a lot of time to get it done and it's extremely unlikely that the club would make a move like this anyway, but I think that a lot of Arsenal's problems could be solved in one move.
There wouldn't be as much time need to adjust either, as these players already know each other's games.

I don't expect this article to be too popular, to be honest, but I just thought I'd throw it out there!

Everton aren't in "desperate" need of the money. Either they keep their current squad and buy no one, or they sell them at the right price and bring new players in. Moyes seems quite content to settle for the first option, judging by his interview that I listened to on 5Live yesterday.

They don't have to sell to balance the books. If Arsenal want their players, they're gonna have to spend big.

Moyes is a brilliant manager. He has caught Everton in no man's land. But for a club like Everton, where they are is huge for them.

I love Moyes, but don't want him at Arsenal. He's no better than Wenger.

Yeah but surely a change is needed. Moyes is just what you need, a disciplined manager.

The problem is how much more will Wenger **** up before a change is made.

Either Moyes, or get Carlo Ancelotti, or even Rafa in asap.

I realise they are no better than Wenger - but that's not important, they are no worse and a shake up behind the scenes is clearly needed. Something surely has to give before something bad happens.

I must admit, i am no fan of Arsenal. BUT, i would hate to see them in a similar (although different!) situation that we were in just recently. No big succesful club deserves that in my opinion.

Either way - best of luck <ok>

I have to agree with Skylarker that it does seem like we need freshening up, too many mistakes are being repeated and Wenger is stubbornly sticking to his ideas to the detriment of the team.

As for the OP, good article <ok>. I would love to have Fellaini, Jagielka and Baines in our team as at the moment we are weak in those areas. Arteta had a pretty poor season last year so I would prefer to go for someone better than him though.

I wouldn't mind moyes, but no ancelloti and definately no Benitez. David Moyes is a quality manager. What he achieves each year on a shoestring budget is amazing.

Fellaini brings another source of income to the club too. Afro wigs. I know i'd buy one.

Raid Everton for a lot of players, but not Tim Howard, Shezza is good, yesterday he was the best arsenal player apart from frimpong but he got sent off so yeah...

Jagielka and Baines defo, maybe Fellaini but with his disciplinary record he'd be too much of a hassle. OUR players get too many cards.

David Moyes would be a good Wenger Successor. If he can do that with zero cash, what could he do with the financial backing of arsenal? (Probably £20m a year, but it's enough for Moyes!)
