This is an intriguing post as this is exactly the opposite of my opinion. I think we have improved since last season (and with the option of one less striker) and the acquisition of Lemina and Hoedt is evidence that Pellegrino is capable of adding better quality players to the squad. The interview with Hoedt on Radio Solent was interesting insofar that the team expected to win and wanted to play further forward. I agree that Puel would probably have ensured that we would been harder to beat but the results this season have not been too disappointing and certainly don't warrant the rants being texted in to the radio.

Personally, I think there will be a clear out in the January window and I am confident that the current problem with strikers will be addressed. For me, Claude Puel was a negative influence on the Saints and did a lot of damage. We need to stick with Pellegrino as he needs to put right the things which were allowed to come off the track last season and my perception is that he is trying to rectify the problems he inherited before moulding the team to his liking. I think you will see a different Southampton team in 2018 and am prepared to give Pellegrino more time as it is evident we are improving.

Even on the left he hardly played well, he is very hit and miss. This is coming from a guy that rat3d ed him better then Lallana 2 yrs ago. The guy has got lazy because of lack of competition.

We could very much do with a Lallana or Mane type player......what's that????????
    We had them?.........ohh!!!!!!!!

Truth is, we have not found replacements with their quality. Thing is we are who we are, and I'm proud of that, but there is a pecking order we will never be the top off.

You have to use the players you have got and what I like about Brighton when they got the ball on the wings they crossed it early and something is more likely happen than too many passes generally going out of play.

Davis headed goal, the first in Pl since Jan 16 is not a very good stat.

    Yeah, that is fair.

I think there is a bit of scapegoating, but it is not what I would say is mean-spirited or panicky.

Just people trying to solve a puzzle. And maybe hoping a little too hard that one simple magic switch will solve our woes. I do not think it’s going to happen. But certainly people’s suggestions are not unreasonable, they are just putting a little too much stick in them, maybe.

Looking at the squads today, we had a far superior team on paper, but there didn't look like much of a gap over 90 mins. That's concerning. We should have pressed them when we went 1-0 up, force mistakes, then if we get another goal sit on it. Poor decisions today. Glad we got a point though, feels like more than one this weekend the ways the games went.

We are definitely creating less chances though.

Happened under Puel second part of season. Comes a time when you got to look at the players.

Do we? Or is it just a case of us preferring our players over theirs? Happens all the time tbf, I think if you asked a Brighton fan the same they would probably say it was 50/50 if you picked a side from both teams

Yeah. There are things he might do differently, but I don't think that any manager would make us a good attacking side, because we do not have good attacking players.

It was understandable that we wanted some continuity in the squad, but this is what happens when you sell your best players, but maintain a death grip on the average ones. Has to end in the summer, I'm afraid...sell Tadic, sell one or two of Long/Austin/Redmond, strongly consider selling one Davis and JWP. We need a new mentality, and that doesn't leave much room for sentiment.

I don't think Tadic ever played on the left under Puel. Redmond started almost every game and never played AM or RW. last time he was played as a left winger was under Koeman and he had joint 3rd highest assists in the league.

I would on the evidence of this match, Knockeart is better then any of our attacking players.

I remember seeing him play there last season and he didn't play well. Guy needs to be dropped but we have no one ro replace him. Which is our main problem.

The support at the ground was top notch as ever though... Well bar the last quarter which was pretty justified imo.

Knocky, yep, Duffy & Gross are good as well, but wouldn't swap many over. Not trying to have rose tinted, they just look a workman type unit, good for them I say.

I ditched the Echo site because it was so depressing and this site always looked on the bright side, now it seems the Neggies have migrated to here. Why do our fans forget how to support? I know things aren't great, I admit I expected us to lose today because that is what we would normally do in the circumstances. We got a somewhat lucky point, so that makes me feel better than if we had lost. The goal came about through some shocking defending, compounded by a gaff by Fraser, and Cedric being the one marking Murray which had the same effect as when he tried to mark Crouchie. Things could be worse, you could be supporting Everton! Puel 2 up and not boring either...
