The TV deal only works for Murdoch if people buy into it.
If Murdoch's takeover fails (and I have fears for F1 about his ultimate aims, where I believe "takeover" ultimately means precisely that), F1 comes back to the people. I don't consider myself a hypocrite so I've cancelled my Murdoch subscription. If enough people say "NO" to Murdoch, it fails in the long-term. It's that simple.

It's amazing that no matter what the topic of a thread is, we all seem to get back to Murdoch in the end. I'm gonna title my next thread "Would an F1 driver have to retire from the race if a random pelican flew in the airbox of his car?" and see how long it takes for Murdoch's name to pop up.

I would imagine that it would be roughly the same time that it would take for 2007 and Spygate to crop up.

Anyway... back to the Pelican. In all honesty, I think we could expect the driver to reach back there with ease and extract said pelican, thus not having to retire from the event. However, if the said Pelican was carrying a gob full of fish and water, we could quite confidently predict that the driver would then have to retire. On the plus side, he gets a free fish supper that he can take home to the family, nicely wrapped up in the News of the World.... Oh bugger!

Pelicans normally fly in the SKY don't they? It certainly make the NEWS if one flew into an airbox. Result? Murdoch.
