That is some serious horse power. I drove a 5.8 litre V8 beast in the states. Trouble was it was a 6.5 Tonne RV
Nothing subtle about ‘em. Pure brute force. As the septics used to say, there’s no substitute for cubes ( cubic inches)
My older sister has just taken delivery of. Cx5 , and in that metallic red / burgundy . Lovely machine .
Years ago you'd look under the bonnet and see things you could recognise and replace. Nowadays you need a bloody degree in Computer Sciences to recognise anything under there! WTF is all that about? And don't call it ****ing progress!
Swings and roundabouts though. Whilst the old cars were easy to work on and replace parts. They were a nightmare for trying to fix fault that you couldn’t trace. At least with the ECU you can plug it in to a diagnostic software and it will tell you straight away what the problem is. Although, it’s a not a cure all. There are still lots of mechanical issues that can go wrong on modern cars that the ECU will throw a fault code somewhere else down the line where a sensor is.
You lost me at ECU mate. When I was kid I replaced almost every part under the bonnet other than the engine. It was straight-forward. I look under the bonnet of my car now and I wouldn't know where to start. So now you're a slave to the garages who charge a ****ing fortune to change a lightbulb! £750 quoted to change sparkies as part of the service!! I mean, WTF!!!
Yeah well don’t take it to a main dealer ! That’s for sure. I always use indie garages. I’ve got a mate who owns a VW/Audi garage, so I know he’ll do good job without ripping me off.
Me too. I take my motor to my mates son in law. But he still needs all of the computers to do the job.
No, that was the dealers quote for the B service, which included the sparks on top of the basic service. But when you've got to remove almost everything just to get to them I can see why they charge a fortune!
A few years ago my brother bought a brand new Quashqi with LED headlights. They told him that he’d never need to replace the bulbs. A couple of weeks later one of the front headlamps went pop. He took it in and they had the car for two weeks He went along to the dealership and they had the whole of the front of the car off, grill, bumpers, radiator the lot. Technicians were scratching their heads consulting the Manual because nobody even knew how to get to the light units.
And they call it progress Don't get me wrong. I drive a very nice car. Took a while to get there but I've no illusions that all I'm doing when I'm driving it off the forecourt is opening up the other side of my wallet for the rest of my hard earned! Bastards!!
You impressed me until the Impreza, ever driven one? They're dogshit and its like driving around in a car equivalent of a shellsuit
E type was my dream car as a kid. I have driven one as my mate owns one that he’s had for 30 yrs. I’d love to have an AC Cobra 427. ****ing death trap, but what a blast!
Yes, I've owned three. The handling and road holding is second to none. The acceleration is exhilarating. A super car for a fraction of the price. So there.
I used to have a Ford Ranger (back when they sold them in the US)... Only got it because it was dirt cheap brand new (about £7,000 in 2000). One of the best vehicles I've ever driven. Power nothing, almost no amenities but fun to drive... Plus it was a bench seat, no double cab or back seats... So the cabin was small which meant that air conditioning would cool it instantly in the summer. Which is a big deal when it's 40C outside.
